I replaced the pressure switch and seems to be okay now....but before you do that make sure the filter is backwashed.

Rinnai r85 exterior propane tankless water heater makes knocking/clicking noise. seems it tries to start with clicking noise then no fire in burners then cycles again. no error message. have two rinnia...

on start up the clicking noise is normal as well as knocking noise ....one important item with fan , if the fan was removed cleaned and then reinstalled with power to unit could have ruined the fan and it will have to be replaced..... Cant tell you why is wasn't firing before with no codes...other than flow sensor not working( most likey stopped with sand fragments or trash) the flow sensor detects hot water demand and ignites heater and if clogged it will not light up but doesn't give error code and the water running through hot side will be cold..... flow sensor is a turbine that detects water movement and lets heater light..... may want to get serviceman to check this out and clean turbine.... hope this helps...

It shuts off about every 5 min or so

What kind of heater?
Fuel Oil, Gas?- Electric -- or what?

Does the fan keep running when the flame stops?

Can you give us any clues-- like clicking relays, or Gas Valve trying to open, or?

We need much more information-- so we can help you trouble shoot the problem.

FURNACE MAKES STRANGE INTERMITTENT CLICK SOUND

Measure the voltage to Terminals #2 and #3 on the main gas valve. If the voltage remains consistent while you hear the sound and the burners diminish slightly, the problem will be your main gas valve. If the voltage fluctuates, you will have to trace it back through the wiring to see through which switch you are losing it.
If this furnace has a hot surface ignitor with flame sensor, try cleaning the flame sensor with some emory cloth.

I hope you find this information to be very helpful as a good starting off point for you.

Please leave a rating. :-)

FURNACE MAKES STRANGE INTERMITTENT CLICK SOUND

Looks like an older system. Tighten all of your electrical connections. Inspect all of the low voltage wiring for any insulation cracks or other damage. The problem you describe sounds like something is either "shorting" or breaking down electrically. Unless the technician can catch it while he/she is there, it will be difficult to determine exactly what is happening. You might get lucky and resolve it yourself by tightening all electrical connections and reinsulating (use electrical tape) any damaged low voltage wire connections. If you continue to experience problems, get the tech. Hopefully the last company you used will be willing to work with you on the bill considering they were unable to "catch" it during the last visit.

Without being there with toolbox in hand, I hope you find this information very helpful moving forward. :-)

My sterling radiator is not firing off and making clicking noise. i believe i need to hit a reset button but cant seem to find any such button.

I BELIVE THE CLICKING NOISE IS THE ELECTRIC IGNITOR,NO FUEL IS COMING OUT SO IT WONT IGNITE, CHECK THE GAS CONTROL VALVE TH EY SHOULD HAVE 24 VOLTS GOING TO IT IF IT DOES, THEN THE VALVE IS BAD, GOOD LUCK

Goodman 075-3 fan runs but no voltage going to igniter

One thing you can checkmis the continuity through the ignitor itself if you have continutity through that there is also some safeties it has to go through but the board is where the voltage is supplied for the ignitor. I would check the high limit and the roll out before condeming the board.

I have the same heater with the same problem. I took the top cover off, removed the ignitor and bent the probes slightly closer. Use two needle nose to prevent breakage of the holder. It has been working fine since.

once the heater starts the clicking should stop. the clicking is the high voltage to the spark plug. once you have a fire it should maintain itself. check the control unit.
