Hi,
i think your acer laptop comes with its own data protection s/w provided by acer , so it recommended to contact acer or norton because it is recommended to use only one security s/w at a time as they share the common system files for protection

best of luck

Are you still having this problem? If so, uninstall Norton 360 and restart the system.
After restarting then setup Norton 360 do not add any additional apps into your computer until
it fully is installed and it tells you to restart the system.

If that doesn't solve the problem then get AVG Internet Security 2011 and it will help you to secure your system from hackers and viruses.

Let me know if the problem persists. Then the other thing is total format of the system and all data has to be backed up in Safe Mode. Do not do any thing other then backing up and formatting the system to a fully brand new partition and install Windows back on and do not connect to the internet till you get Norton or AVG installed once there installed then connect to the internet and see if that solved the problem.

After that install on the applications and then restart and login into your system and your all set.

Tip

Services You Can Disable

There are quite a few services you can disable from starting automatically.
This would be to speed up your boot time and free resources.
They are only suggestions so I suggestion you read the description of each one when you run Services
and that you turn them off one at a time.

Some possibilities are:
  • Alerter - Sends alert messages to specified users that are connected to the server computer.
  • Application Management - Allows software to tap directly into the Add/Remove Programs feature via the Windows Installer technology.
  • Background Intelligent Transfer Service - The Background Intelligent Transfer service is used by programs (such as Windows AutoUpdate) to download files by using spare bandwidth.
  • Clipbook - ClipBook permits you to cut and paste text and graphics over the network.
  • Error Reporting Service - Allows applications to send error reports to Microsoft in the event of an application fault.
  • Fast User Switching - Windows XP allows users to switch quickly between accounts, without requiring them to log off.
  • Help and Support - Allows the XP Built-in Help and Support Center to run.
  • IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service - You don't need this if you have other software to create CDs.
  • Indexing Service - Indexes contents and properties of files on local and remote computers; provides rapid access to files through flexible querying language.
  • IP SEC - Manages IP security policy and starts the ISAKMP/Oakley (IKE) and the IP security driver. If you are not on a domain, you likely don't need this running.
  • Messenger - Transmits net send and Alerter service messages between clients and servers. This is how a lot of pop-up windows start appearing on your desktop.
  • Net Logon - Supports pass-through authentication of account logon events for computers in a domain. If you are not on a domain, you don't need this running
  • Network DDE - Provides network transport and security for Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) for programs running on the same computer or on different computers.
  • NT LM Security Support Provider - Provides security to remote procedure call (RPC) programs that use transports other than named pipes.
  • Performance Logs and Alerts - Collects performance data from local or remote computers based on preconfigured schedule parameters, then writes the data to a log or triggers an alert. If you don't need to monitor your performance logs, then you don't need this service.
  • Portable Media Serial Number - Retrieves the serial number of any portable music player connected to your computer
  • QOS RSVP - Provides network signaling and local traffic control setup functionality for QoS-aware programs and control applets.
  • Remote Desktop Help Session Manager - Manages and controls Remote Assistance. If you are not using Remote Desktop you don't need this service.
  • Remote Registry - Enables remote users to modify registry settings on this computer.
  • Routing & Remote Access - Offers routing services to businesses in local area and wide area network environments. Allows dial-in access.
  • Secondary Login - Enables starting processes under alternate credentials. This is what allows you to run an application as another user.
  • Smart Card - Manages access to smart cards read by this computer.
  • Smart Card Helper - Enables support for legacy non-plug and play smart-card readers used by this computer.
  • SSDP Discovery Service - Enables discovery of UPnP devices on your home network.
  • TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper - Enables support for NetBIOS over TCP/IP (NetBT) service and NetBIOS name resolution. This should not be needed in today's network environment.
  • Telnet - Enables a remote user to log on to this computer and run programs, and supports various TCP/IP Telnet clients.
  • Uninterruptible Power Supply Service - Manages an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) connected to the computer.
  • Universal Plug and Play Device Host - Provides support to host Universal Plug and Play devices
  • Upload Manager - Manages synchronous and asynchronous file transfers between clients and servers on the network.
  • Volume Shadow Copy Service - Manages and implements Volume Shadow Copies used for backup and other purposes.
  • Web Client - Enables Windows-based programs to create, access, and modify non-local files across the Internet.
  • Wireless Zero Configuration - Provides automatic configuration for the 802.11 adapters
  • WMI Performance Adapter - Provides performance library information from WMI HiPerf providers.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Norton has a habit of being so good that it interferes with some normal activities. Should you wish to uninstall a Norton product and if at all possible, download and run the Norton Removal Tool. Soon as the Norton Product is un-installed, remove the remaining Symantec folders in Common Shared folders. Thereafter, pls follow below procedures:
  1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Programs > Accessories > Windows Explorer.
  2. Delete the program installation folders for all Symantec program that were installed.
  3. If you accepted the defaults, the installation folders will be in C:Program Files and will have the name of the program that you installed.
Below listed are the default program folder names and locations listed by program:

  • C:Program FilesNorton SystemWorks
It would help to configure Windows to show all files.
  • Click on "Windows Key" and select Control Panel
  • Double click on Folder options.
  • Click on View Tab
  • Un-check "Hide file extensions for known file types."
  • Under the "Hidden files" folder, click "Show hidden files and folders."
  • Click on Apply
  • Click on OK.
Having performed the above, search for and delete all Symantec folders.

  2. Double click on C Drive
  3. Go to the following locations and delete the following folders.
  • c:Program FilesNorton Internet Security
  • c:Program FilesCommon FilesSymantec Shared
  • C:ProgramDataSymantec
and delete all the 3 folders.

Finish by cleaning up the Registry:

CAUTION: you must back up the registry before you make any changes to it. Incorrect changes to the registry can result in permanent data loss or corrupted files. Modify only the keys that are specified.
  • Click Start and then Run.
  • Type REGEDIT into the Run dialog box when it comes up and then click OK.
  • The Registry Editor will open.
  • Navigate to and select the following key:

I am attempting to install Norton Internet Security 2009. My McAfee Internet Security 2008 runs out in two days. Norton has indicated that I will have to remove an amount of existing programmes (about 20!)...

Norton will not replace the programs.

As long as you have the program disc, just re-install them after installing Norton.

Back up all data (saved documents) first.

Cannot manage to load norton security programme

hi there,

although, not specified what you did but i presume 2 actions:

1. Running the program and cannot be completely loaded, it means that there's a program that block your Norton Internet Security 2008 to run, and that might be a Virus or Trojan. or someone is hacking in your pc (might be). and this will happen, if your Norton Internet Security 2008 is not updated and/or you install an internet plug ins in some of your visited website and through that plug ins the website administrator has a link in your pc to access, but not all.

solution: try to uninstall and fresh install your Norton Internet Security 2008 but before you do that make sure that you have a supported docs like cd key and response code from Norton if any, to successfully install your anti virus. and before you install, unplug your connection from internet (install offline, after installation, update it and scan your pc).

2. you install your Norton Internet Security 2008 and cannot be completely loaded, it means that Norton program is corrupted. please have a fresh copy in cd if any and install it.

I am trying to install Norton 360 2.0 and a screen has popped up saying. 'The file 'SymIMV.sys' on Symantec Network Seciruty Intermediate Filter Driver isneeded. Type the path where the file is located,...

if you are installing it from disk check that the disk is free from dirt/dust and scratches this could cause files to be read as corrupt because they cannot be read properly.

Hi,

I think Norton would automatically rollback.

You can empty all the temp file, rcent files & history.

To be sue you can use the Norton removal tool

It can be downloaded from here :

http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039?OpenDocument

Select the product and then remove.

After this restart the computer.

Now try to install the software it should install now properly.

Good Luck.

Data Transfer from hard dick.

fadec,
Unfortunately, this doesn't sound like a good situation, or exactly what you want to hear. It sounds like there was some corruption to a program file as it was copied to the CD during backup. That is pretty well confirmed by the fact that you can't access the data from either the CD or the copy of the CD.
About the only thing that I can suggest is to try to obtain an original copy of the program that you are using and load that. Then try to access the individual data files through the newly loaded program. You may have to copy them into the program for this access.
If the data is worth it, you might be able to contact a company that specializes in data recovery. I've never had to use one, but my understanding is that they are quite expensive. If you want me to research those costs, please let me know.
I might also suggest that you attempt to recover what the company that did this for you (to you!) charged you for the copying service. They apparently didn't do you any favors and should refund the amount to you.
Please don't beat me up on my rating just because There is no way to easily recover this data.... ;o)
Sorry, I wish there was a better answer to give you.
