thanks for the response to my problem. I have contacted HP but they are not interested because the laptops are no longer warranted. We have had a response from the retailer and they will come and take a look at it but are making no promises but fingers crossed they may do a foc repair.

I think HP should do the repair for free. Since you've had the problem previously, it is not like you want a repair for the first time. Let them know what happened.
