Hp Pavillion laptop. Powers up intermittantly. we purchased 2 of these for my sons one of which was repaired FOC (motherboard replaced) as a goodwill gesture as it was only 1 month out of warranty. Now the other one has the same fault.Seems its a common problem with HP Laptops but just wondered if you may be able to help with an alternitive solution to this very expensive repair? (around £300.00)

Hi Pinky01,

thanks for the response to my problem. I have contacted HP but they are not interested because the laptops are no longer warranted. We have had a response from the retailer and they will come and take a look at it but are making no promises but fingers crossed they may do a foc repair.

thanks again!

I think HP should do the repair for free. Since you've had the problem previously, it is not like you want a repair for the first time. Let them know what happened.

If your motherboard does not have a SATA controller then you can purchase a SATA PCI expansion card and install it on your motherboard.

HP Desk Top Pavillion a815n - what type of mother board battery does it use?

The motherboard battery is the CMOS battery that has a part number of CR2032 and can be acquired at your local Walmart or Target type store. You will need to remove the side panel of the computer to get to the motherboard and just look for a round battery should be silver looking. Remove it and replace it with the one you purchased if it needs replacement that is.

That means that the BIOS of the motherboard can't detect the hard disk = it has died. Replace the hard disk and reinstall.

Dead CMOS battery does not cause the problem you are describing. More likely your southbridge chipset is defective on your motherboard. Replace the motherboard.

HP Pavilion Slimline s3122x powers up fan runs

Hi Im Rain.
I may have bad news for you. Its a very bad sign when your keyboard and monitor are not working at the same time. Sounds like the technician was right.
I also think its your motherboard. If you really just like the computer you can invest in another motherboard.

Replacing an ethernet port on my hp pavillion

Your ethernet port is probably integrated into the motherboard of your computer. Have you tried reinstalling the driver for the ethernet?

If the port is truly bad, my suggestion would be to purchase an ethernet card or NIC (Network Interface Card) and have it installed. You can get them for $15 to $25 at any big box computer store.

I am trying to figure out if the followiing part: C59S147-06493 is the eathernet card to my hp pavillion a1203w desktop computer and if hp sells just that part

According to the HP web site : http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&cc=us&docname=c00497067&dlc=en

This model has an intergrated ethernet, which means you would have to replace the whole motherboard. BUT, you can always purchase a seperate ethernet 10/100/1000 card. It would not matter on brand AS LONG as you have an available PCI slot for it.
