Question about Kenmore 96213 Electric Kitchen Range

1 Answer

Kenmore E2 F3

I have read that you posted F3 means the heat sensor is gone. THANK YOU for that advice. but ours also flashes E2 before that. And the oven light would not turn off. We have unplugged it until we can get the part.
Also how do you find the model #, we bought this house a month ago and I can't see a model number on the unit.

Do you have any additional advice? THANK YOU

E2 F3 showed up and my cookies burned. What do these codes mean?

  • fultonbrewer Feb 20, 2009

I set the oven to bake at 400, the E2-F3- appears. when this happens the lower element does not come on, however the upper element energises and will burn whatever you put in the oven.

The F3 E2 error code indicates that the electronic oven control board in the range senses an over-temperature condition in the oven.

This can be caused by a failed temperature sensor probe, a wiring problem between the sensor and the control board, or a failed electronic oven control board.
If the oven is apparently not overheating when this error code appears, then your likely failure is the temperature sensor probe.
If the oven is overheating, then you likely have a failed electronic oven control board due to a stuck relay not cycling the oven heating element off properly.

For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...

FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.

PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.

If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.

If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

My electric range #8053211 or 8053612 or #8273512 the broiler element stays on and the digital disply flashes "f3-e2, what wrong?

Hello,

The F3-E2 error code says that the oven is getting too hot and the oven sensor would need to be replaced because the control board has detected that the sensor is not telling the control the correct tempature.HOWEVER a defective sensor will in way way make the broil element stay on and thusly i believe what is wrong is that a relay on the control board is stuck and the control board should be replaced.

I belive the reason your getting the F3-E2 code is because of the broil staying on and indeed the sensor is telling the control its too hot since the heat wont cut off.

I have Whirlpool Schott Ceran Accubake range. Got and F3E2 code while oven was in self-cleaning mode. What does this mean?

Hi.

F3 E2 is a temperature runaway error. It means that the control board detected that the oven is too hot. If there is no effective overheating the error occurs because the temperature sensor is shorted.

here the explanation from manual:

F3 E2 : Oven too hot, over heating

Solution:
Test and replace oven temperature sensor.

Before replacement the temperature sensor must be tested. A good sensor will read about 1080 Ohms at room temperature. If the sensor is shorted will only read a couple of Ohms or zero.

If the sensor is good the problem can be the control board, wiring to temperature sensor, or in sporadic cases an heating element that stays always on because of a wiring contact. The last case is quite uncommon.

The most common fault is a defective temperature sensor. The sensor is a probe located inside the oven cavity. The sensor is attached to a two wires connector and held by one or two screws. Disconnect power. Remove the sensor. Undo connector and read Ohms at connector. If there is low impedance replace the probe.

Here a tip explaining how to find parts and diagrams for most aplliances: Where do I find parts and diagrams for my appliance?

Hi

F3-E2 Error indicates a loose/broken wire on the oven temp sensor or the oven temp. sensor itself is bad and should be replaced. To solve this issue test the oven temp. sensor, it should read between 1080-1120 ohms, if the rating is more then that and the door appears to be closing fine then it is the control board that is bad and should be replaced. Hope this helps...please post back for further assistance.

Top burner over heated and burned our food then E2 F3 fault showed up on keypad. Burns the outside of the food but does not cook the inside. The oven was on bake not broil. Model GY396LXPS00

Hi.

E2 F3 means Oven temperature is too high (Cook mode).

The first part to be tested is the temp sensor. The sensor is located inside oven cavity and it is tested using a multimeter set on Ohms to read impedance at sensor contacts. At room temperature, sensor resistance should be 1K to 1.1K. If not, replace the sensor. If the sensor checks okay, check for a short to in element wiring (element stays always on). If element and sensor are OK replace the control.

Don't know the model number. What does F-3 mean when it flashes when I try to turn on the oven temperture

Hi
Thanks for using FixYa. Error F3 in your range/oven means oven temperature sensor circuit failure. To resolve this issue you'll have to check the oven temp. sensor circuit if the reading is more then 1100ohms then it should be replaced however, if the rating is fine then it is the Electronic Range Control (ERC) that has gone bad & should be replaced. Please rate the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Hi
Thanks for using FixYa. Error F3 in your range/oven means oven temperature sensor circuit failure. To resolve this issue you'll have to check the oven temp. sensor circuit if the reading is more then 1100ohms then check the wire harness connecting the control & sensor (as you have already replaced the sensor) however, if the rating is fine then it is the Electronic Range Control (ERC) that has gone bad & should be replaced.
