Ati2mtag causing crash - ATI vid card

I have an ATI radeon 9800xt AGP 256 video card *the listed is the closest one i could find* . Ever since i upgraded with Catalyst, the video card causes my PC to crash when I play games. In the event log, i get spammed with ati2mtag errors which seems to coincide with the crashing. I have since reinstalled my driver, deleted and reinstalled World of Warcraft, and even reformatted my Pc to fix the problem. Nothing so far as worked. The crashes cause my pc to lock up and the more I play, the more frequent I crash. All of my searching indicates it's my video card causing the crashes. Is there anything I can do to fix it short of buying a new Nvidia card? Please help =/ HELLO I have a problem with my pc after replacing my video card (6800gt) with an Ati x850xt. When i try to pay games like COD4 the screen sometimes goes black and sometimes blue with letters that cannot be recognized. This is the second video card of the same type i tried and both have the same problem. I did everything to fix this issue from formating and reinstalling windows to adding new and old display drivers. I have also updated bios and mobos drivers as also remove all my computers components and replace the back again. My computer is p4 3mhz Prescott 2mgb ram ddr 400 motherboard msi 865PEM3 ILS video card ATI RADEON X850XT AGP os WXP Pro sp2. I have run out of ideas and i need help.

Hi,finally got this fixed,
decided to upgrade my pc and the case i used had temperature sensors for hdd,cpu etc,so i decided to use one of these to meassure the temp of my card and noticed that my everytime my pc crashed the temp was well above 80c,sometimes reaching 88c,
so i took the fan and heatsink of the card and found the fins of the heatsink absolutely choked solid with dust, cleaned this out and now my pc hasnt crashed since and the maximun temp is no more than 45-50c HAPPY DAYS!!!!!!!!

Problem with NVidia GeForce4 MX 4000.

Hi!
Your old Rage Pro is an AGP 2x, where the Nvidia is an AGP 8x.

The Nvidia is probably not compatible with your motherboard.

Also, I think Nvidia needs much more than 320 Mb ram.

Garbled video on tc1100

Sorry for the long reply, but I hope this helps.

You will need to replace the system board and the keyboard receiving bracket inside the computer to fix this problem.

I work at an institution that uses these laptops and we've seen this repair a lot... and I personally have a tc1100 that has gone through 5 system boards. HP has a new (slightly redesigned?) keyboard receiving bracket that helps (but doesnt always) remedy this problem. HP themselves told us that we need to replace the systemboard, keyboard bracket and keyboard when we see this problem on one of our machines. We replace them all the time at our repair shop and it is the only thing that consistently works.

Note: The system board's connections near the graphics controller can be severed (its a multilayered board so you might not be able to see it if you looked) when the keyboard can move inside the keyboard bracket thus causing your garbled / checkerboard screen.

For this reason, you can sometimes temporarily get it to boot correctly by tilting the screen towards you all the way before turning it on. We've also seen some cases where disconnecting the keyboard and trying to boot will work. You can use those ideas only as temporary fixes though, and I'm sorry to say that this problem will get progressively worse until you repair it.

Video Problems with Windows Media Player

Why is the projected video black in the Player? If you can see the Player, but the Video and Visualization pane is black, this usually indicates that your video card is not configured correctly. You can usually correct this problem by changing the video acceleration and/or overlay settings for your video card. To change video acceleration, do the following: 1. In Windows Media Player, on the Tools menu, click Options. 2. In the Options dialog box, click the Performance tab. 3. In the Video Acceleration area, move the slider to adjust the video-acceleration capabilities of your video hardware. Drag the slider to Full to use all available video acceleration. Drag the slider to None to use basic video-acceleration settings that work with most video hardware. To change overlay settings, do the following: 1. In Windows Media Player, on the Tools menu, click Options. 2. In the Options dialog box, click the Performance tab. 3. In the Video Acceleration area, click the Advanced button. 4. In the Video Acceleration Settings dialog box, under Video Acceleration, clear the Use overlays check box.
