Question about Singer 7422

1 Answer

Machine Won't Sew

I used my 7422 machine to add a button hole on a pair of pants. It worked fine, but now I can't get it to work for any other stitch. I pushed the BH lever back up, but when I try to use the foot pedal it just beeps. The only stitch that is still working are the large and small BH regardless of if the lever is up or down. Anyone else had this problem or an idea of how to fix it?

When you pull down the lever to make a button hole it makes the first bar tack and side but springs back up before the remainder of the button hole is stitched

It sounds like the sensor on your buttonhole lever is out of adjustment.Contact the people listed on your warranty papers for repair.

Why does upper thread snap when backstitching?

May be an issue with the feed dogs, or possibly a burr on the hook. Lay a peice of scrap material under the foot as if you were going to sew, remove needle, then run machine in reverse to see if it feeds material backwards as it should

I have my machine threaded and it runs with no beeps however it is not sewing the material together

I'm wondering if you have the flat side of the needle in correctly. If your bobbin assembly is in the front of the machine, the flat side should be towards the back. Also, check to make sure your needle is ALL the way up in the needle clamp.

I bought a yamata fy-900 from a thrift store. used it for a couple of days, it worked fine untill i tryed to sew a pair of jean pants and the needle got stuck and it hasent worked right sence it does not...

You have probably knocked out the timing on the machine. Most household machines, inexpensive machines especially will not sew denim without a fair amount of coaxing. Check the threading and do try on lighter fabrics first. to see if its just the denim.

Beeping Sewing Machine

Your problem is most certainly with the buttonhole switch. Firstly: Look if the buttonhole lever, left back of machine, is push up in position. The beeping sound is a warning message. Secondly Remove the light cover, left of the machine, loosen back screw and remove left hand screw completely. Check for a small black electric switch, follow the brown and green elecrtic wire, just back of the light. If you push the BH lever up and down the switch finger should also move up and down. If it stays down, the machine will not work and give a beeping sound. If the switch finger is stuck, push it up with the BH in top position. Hope this will help you
