Hi, remove and put the hard disk in another machine where you disconnect the cd rom and fix the hard disk so as to view two drive(c(hard disk in the machine)&e(the faulty hard disk))open c and create a folder ,open e and copy your files to c .
after remove the e drive and fix it to its machine.
format the hard disk then copy the files in c(in the other machine)using the above procedure

Hi Guys, you must be getting this a lot, but i am going nuts! I have a Hitachi 5K320 250Gb Harddrive that for some reason I cant get in anymore. I have very important stuff on there that i need for my...

I know it sounds a little nuts but try it with the drive upside down or on either side or on end supported by some books, you can also try cooling it off in a fridge for a while. when a drive starts to go and starts making clicks and vibe noises you have very little time to get everything off. before you try anything make sure you have space to save the files if you do get in.
Also look into Puppy Linux it runs in ram without running the hard drive,
Puppy may be able to read your drive.

I'll check in with you later, off to work.

I have recently posted and got some long slobby answer on what can be wrong with my hardrive ST3320418AS - SN 9VM0584z Barracuda SATA 7200.12 - Please dont ask me irelavant question if you cant help me...

Gerrit,
If your problem is related to a firmware issue, usually that means something with your motherboard's built-in drive controller, so you'd have to post your motherboard's model number (if it's not working, you'd have to open up the case and look around a little). If the computer is 'original', and is a model I can 'Google' from here, I'd be happy to try and get that info for you.
I can't help but think your drive is the problem, so the best (and only way) I use to get info off any uncooperative (unbootable) hard drive is to find an empty external hard drive enclosure kit at your local office supply shop for under $20 and use that to connect your drive to any other PC you have to copy off your data before handing it over to the manufacturer.
It's actually the best way, and also a lot easier than you might think.
Hope this helps!

My hardrive fell off my bed (2 feet height) and is now refusing to work. i plug it in, then it makes a weird noise. after a few seconds, it feels weird like its magnetic or something. if you are holding it...

Unfortunately, your hard disk drive is now dead... A large fall or shaking a hard drive can cause the reader head (think of a record player needle going along the grooves) to break. (No needle, no sound)
I doubt you'll be able recover data especially if shook it and it maybe feels like a piece broke off inside or something. (It could have been platter collisions or something else technical from the fall; point is it is now broken.) You might have the tiniest chance of recovering something if you use a USB enclosure for Hard Disk Drives, but I would guess 98% against it. I'm sorry about your loss. In the future be sure not to shake the drive or move the computer while on and you hear the spinning of the drive. You of course know not to drop it... I'm sure it was just an accident. Remember to always back up. Again sorry and I hope this helps, thank you.

My wd external hardrive is not recognized anymore on my pc. I have tried on other pcs and tried different usb cables and nothing. I do not want to reformat the drive because I have important information...

Hi. If you here some clicking noise then your external hard drive might be busted already.

Try to contact a local tech and see if he can still pull out your data from there.

Hope you'll be able to extract your files back.

Have a great weekend!!!

The hardrive makes a constant ticking noise, the screen displays "operating system not found".

Hi

Unfortunatley the ticking noise means the drive is at the end of its life and will need to be replaced

Is it an external drive?

If it is, open the external hard drive cover, remove the hard disk inside, and fix it back. Try again and let's see what happens.

If it still does not work, insert the external drive into the computer, feel the hard drive if it spins/vibrate from inside or if it makes a cracking noise.

If it spins/vibrate, it means the hard disk is still working. In that case, you have to get another external drive case/cover.

But if it makes cracking noise, then it means the hard drive is damaged and you need to get another one.

Lastly, if its not an external drive, the same applies because, its still all about hard drive.

I wish you all the best.

HARD DRIVE NOT DETECTED

I would just try and come out straight to you, that your harddrive has very much likely to have crashed. Hard Drives are generally Very Fragile because of the Tiny Read/Write head that is inside.
The moment it drops on the floor it might have got broken. and that is why you are hearing the funny noise...although it will still keep spinning because the voltage is still being supplied onto it, but you might not be able to read or write anything onto it.
Sorry.
Hope this helps.
Goodluck.

Verbatim external hardrive not showing up on computer?

A Hard disk making noise, does not sound too good. if it was waorking before on both PC's & not having issues then it has to be with the unit. try on a nother computer. if its the same thing i suggest you look for that warranty card of yours.
