Dell 17: flat Panel does not turn on

I have a dell flat panel monitor. After turining it off this weekend It wont turn on anymore. The power light does not come on in any color and the screen remained blank. I took the backing off and with a volt meter checked to see if I was getting juice to the on/off button. I found that I did have juice (about 2-3 volts, the needle kept jumping?) Also, when I made the connection with the volt meter, I noticed the monitor screen had a subtle flash. Do you have any idea of what could be wrong? Any suggetions on what should be replaced and how to fix would be great.

same problem. started out by blinking for a while everytime i turned it on and then eventually screen would come up. now, completely not up. if i power off monitor and then power on the screen comes on for a flash before goping off again. hooked up an old monitor and it's fine. has anyone tried another cable to see if that was faulty??

The problem is with the power supply.Check the capacitors to see if any of them are shot. This is the number one reason monitors dont turn on. It is very unlikely that the video chip is the problem.

You should have a 5v line and a 12v line. I would suspect that the power supply is bad or the is something shorted that is shutting down the power supply and making it cycle. Check out www.lcdrepair.us for instructional videos and parts for all dell units.

Dell model no E198FPf LCD Monitor has agreen light but wont turn on

Your problem is caused by a failure of the filter capacitors in the power supply board, this is a common issue on LCD monitors. Here is a link to repair information for this model. You can repair the monitor by replacing the filter capacitors.

Dell E173FPc 17" TFT when turned on goes black

Hi Gaz,

First, verify the monitor is functional.
Monitor STFC (Self Test Feature Check)
Turn off the monitor
Plug the monitor power cord directly into the wall socket to remove any surge protectors or APCs from the troubleshooting equation
Unplug the monitor video cable from the back of the computer
Turn on the monitor
The floating dialog box should appear on screen against a black background.
If the issue appears during the STFC, the monitor is defective. What are the results please?

That sounds like the backlight inverter board. Check ebay for the board or a repair kit for it.
