Question about HP PSC 2210 All-In-One InkJet Printer

HP PCS 2210 all in one printer/FAX.

First it wouldnd receive a dial tone when attempting to fax. Now it wont turn on at all. No display or power at all.

    Thanks for trying. But the problem is more complicated. The unit is about 4 years old. I tryed reset, but no good. I think it may be the boards. The unit has power at the a/c transformer, around 40volts d/c. no power past that point. Any ideas if its a capasitor or something? Thanks

    To easy and simple. The transformer has around 40v d/c, but no power past that point. There may be a blown capasitor. are there fuse capasitors? If so do you know how to trace it. I can solder. I do many repairs, this one is tricky. Thanks.

Is this a new printer or have you had it for a while. The first thing to try because it isn't turning on is a hard reset which can be done by unplugging it for a minute and replugging it back in. If this doesn't turn it back on, the loss of power could be from a power surge or a power outage that it might have experience. Depending on how long you have had this, I don't want you to try anything if it is still under warranty so please update me on this and we can go from there.

    No capicitors. It probably shorted out the board/modem. If it lasted for 4 years, that's pretty decent for a printer and HP is a good brand. I recommend just buying a new printer. If you call HP about this they may even give you a discount and free shipping with a new one. Many times I've seen a printer supplier do this. Let me know what you want to do and I can advise but it is not worth fixing in my opinion.

Check the unit power cord, & if it is properly connected to the power outlet..

Ok..unplug from power, and let it rest for around 20 min..then unplug from computer, restart and see if you get a menu panel display

Fax wont' go through. Plugged phone jack into phone line and when I try to fax it doesn't connect. Any suggestions? Thanks


Can you receive any faxes. Run a Fax Test from the Tools menu. Is the problem with only one fax receipient? (Check the phone number and make sure they are set to receive. I have dealt with one fax receipient where the call-waiting service caught the fax call.)

Does the Fax see a dial tone? If there is no dial tone, use a single line phone (corded) to listen for a dial tone at that jack. If there is no dial tone, check the incoming service for a dial tone. (If you have no dial tone at all, contact your service provider.) Try a new phone cable (2-wire RJ-11) Try calling the number from another phone line with the single line phone attached. If the phone doesn't ring with a new cable, check your wiring and then contact your provider. Is the signal analog or digital (the all-in-one is designed for digital)?

Go back through the fax settings and set it as directed in Step 2 here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01458259&tmp_task=solveCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=3643612 . You need the fax error reporting setting.

Disconnect any items that are plugged into the 2-Ext port.

Try reinitializing the unit. Unplug the power cord with the unit on. Make sure that the phone cord is fully seated in the 1-Line port. Then reconnect the power cord.

Try resetting the all-in-one, this may require 2 people. With the printer on, unplug the power cord and wait at least 20 seconds. Press and hold # and 3 while plugging in the power cord. Release the buttons after the unit starts up.

If none of these steps help the unit may need service.

All of sudden the fax component will not send or receive. Checked phone jack with plugging in phone and getting dial tone. Lights up/scans/ tells you to dial number but than nothing


Is this HP Printer ?

Disconnect the power cord from back of printer ( while printer is on )
while holding power button printer - connect the cord.

Under Setup - Advance Fax Settings - Turn off ECM
Under Setup - Fax settings - Reduce the Fax Speed to slow

try to send fax.

How do I receive fax on this printer hp2210


Hi, You have to attach a working telephone line to this machine, send a fax to a friend and ask him to do the same for you, that`s all there is to it. If you did all of that and it won`t work then you can remove the phone line an attach it to a phone and check for dial tone, no tone means the line is dead. If the line is OK then the fax board inside the printer is defective. If that is the case you will have to take it to a shop for repair, if you had it for less than a year then it is probably still under warranty.

Can't receive or send fax on my lexmark X4270


In this case first we need to chk whether there is any dial tone on ur fax machine for that u need to Hit the Options button till u find an option saying On Hook Dial now hit select and it should give u a dial tone if it doesnt check the Phone Line Connections........... If it gives u a dial tone........... Unplug the Power Supply from the Printer........ Press and hold the Stop/Clear button and while holding the Stop/Clear button insert the Power Supply back to the Printer........ It will say clearing and then display a page where u need to Selct ur Country and the other details........ and as soon as this is done u can send and recieve faxes....... Thanku

No dial tone detected


It may be a bad modem on the copier. Plug your phone into the auxillary phone port on the copier and see if you get a dial tone. Also make sure that your cord from the wall is plugged into the line port and not the phone port.

Printer fault


check the power cable connectivity ...
unplug the power cable
press and hold # and 6
connect the power cable back in and keep these buttons on hold till the screen goes off or says semiful reset, if it turns off press the power button to turn it on and follow the screen it ll prompt u to press 11 for english and so on ...

If you are using speed dial to dial the fax number, the HP Officejet
might be dialing too fast or too soon. To solve this problem, try one
of the following:
Try manually dialing the fax number from the HP Officejet front
panel, or from an attached phone. For information, see send a
fax using monitor dialing
on page 43 or send a fax manually
from a telephone
on page 43.
Re-create the speed dial setting and insert some pauses. For
information, see create individual speed-dial entries on
page 56.
If your telephone line has a PBX system, make sure you are dialing
the number for an outside line before dialing the fax number.
The receiving fax machine might be having problems. To check this,
try calling the fax number from a telephone and listen for fax tones.
If you cannot hear fax tones, the receiving fax might not be turned
on or connected, or a voice mail service could be interfering with
the recipient’s phone line.

Fax Problem


turn the printer on ...
unplug the power cable without turning the printer off....
press and hold # & 3, keep them on hold ....
while holding these two buttons put the power cable back in ... and wait for a few the screen to come up ... the screen may go blank ... use the power button to turn the printer on ... try to receive the fax ...
if it will not work then try # & 6 .... remember take the backup of phone numbers if stored on the printer as it ll erase the memory of the printer ,,,

Before you begin


To pinpoint the cause of the issue, please record answers to the following questions:

Can a fax be sent or received?
Can a fax be sent, but not received?
Has the fax function ever worked in the past?

Any error messages may also help to narrow down the cause of the issues.

Print out the following:

- a settings list to view the current fax settings
- a receive log if there are issues receiving faxes
- a send log if there are issues sending faxes
- an activity log if faxes cannot be sent or received.
Initial checks
If the fax option has worked in the past and does not do so now, check that the same connection is being used and that it still works.
Check to see if any configuration settings have been changed that could have affected the fax settings.

Faxes cannot be sent/received:
If you are using a digital line, you need an analog card, an ISDN adapter, or an ADSL filter in order to send faxes.
If a PBX is being used, an ISDN Adapter/ADSL filter will not be used as these are supplied within the system. (A PBX is normally used within a company to share a small number of public lines among a large number of private ones to save on cost.) For instructions on configuring the X6100 Series machine with a PBX, see How and When to Use the PBX Option.
Check the phone line (without the printer):
Test the line by connecting a phone directly into the phone port.
Check for a dialing tone.
If you cannot hear a dialing tone, try another phone cable. Once you can hear a dialing tone, you know that the phone port is live and working.
Make sure the RJ11 cable is not damaged.
Check that the printer is accessing the dialing tone correctly:
Press the Options button on the operator panel five times until ON HOOK DIAL is displayed.
Press Select. You should hear a dialing tone.
If you can't hear a dial tone, make sure that the speaker volume is set to High. (Go to Fax, press Options eight times until SPEAKER VOLUME is displayed, then use the plus or minus buttons to change the setting to HIGH. Press Select.)
If there is still no dial tone, unplug the power cable and the phone lead, then plug them back in and try again.

Faxes can be sent but not received:
Connect the Lexmark All-in-One directly to the phone port. IMPORTANT: Do NOT connect any phones to the EXT port.
Make sure the Fax receive mode is set to answer the fax after 3 rings. (Press the Fax button on the operator panel and then press Options three times until ANSWER FAX WHEN is displayed. Change the settings using the - or + buttons as appropriate.)

Faxes can be received but not sent:
Make sure that Country Code is set correctly:
Press the Fax button on the operator panel and then press Options 15 times until Advanced is displayed.
Press Select.
Press Options 13 times and then press the + or - button until the right country is displayed.
Press Select.

IMPORTANT! These tests must be carried out with NO EXTENSIONS, i.e. phones or answering machines, connected to the EXT port on the All-In-One.
