Re: unexpected error during install
Is XP Media Center what you had installed previously when the cam was working? If so, are you using the correct and latest driver from the manufacturer for said operating system?, That being also said, are your video and audio drivers up to date for the operating system?? Those will be the primary concerns, however remember that a corrupt download or one that became corrupted as a result of the hard drive crash could be the real issue. So in other words, start from scratch and check everything you do.

There could be only three reasons. 1st your installation source is corrupt. Remedy. Get a new installation source. Secondly your root partition of your HDD has bad sector. whenever your PC tries to install your software it fells into bad sector of your partition. Remedy. Use a third party software to fix your partitions bad sectors. Finally. IRQ clashing check wether there is IRQ clashing with other peripheral. To check IRQs you can go to my comp properties device manager.
Vista Business, great. So you are coming up with an error. I suspect this could be an issue with the disk being dirty or scratched or the CD drive is messed up. Let me give you a link to the software and you can download it and install it that way.http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/download/download.aspx?category=ICE. Let me know if this solves the issue.
control panel add remove hardware
scroll down and find any programs that the cam software may have installed
then restart and try installing again
plug in cam when asked
make sure you have no other programs running during install
also make sure your cam is compatible with os
