If both computers have a CD or DVD burner/drive, you can put them on CDs or DVDs. If not, and they both have USB drives, you can use a flash drive or portable USB hard drive to move the files.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Whats the best way to transfer my infomation and programs to a newer computer

For content, if you don't want to transfer it all to a flash drive and then transfer it to the new machine, register for an account at any (or all, your choice) of the following sites:
Dropbox (2GB free)
https://drive.google.com/ (15GB free)
Welcome to OneDrive (15-23GB free)
Once the programs of your choice are downloaded and installed, use them to back up your personal files to the internet. Then, on the new computer, install the programs and allow them to sync. This will download them from the internet. Move the files out of the folders to free up space, wait for the removal to sync to the old computer, and go back to the old computer to move more in to be moved over. Repeat this as much as needed to have all of your files moved over.
For programs, transfer any installation files you still have (the program you download and then click to install) through the cloud storage programs from above that you choose, then use these .exe files to install to the new laptop. If you don't have the .exe files lying around, then you can either hunt them down individually on the new computer (in which case, make a list from your old computer) or use a service like
Ninite Install or Update Multiple Apps at Once (it's free, by the way) to mass download/install most common programs so that you don't have to go hunting for them.
For programs that were installed via disc, you're probably just going to have to install those on the new machine the old fashioned way. You cannot just copy/paste program folders (though it's tempting) because installing programs writes values to your computer's registry, which cannot be transferred and certainly don't tag along with the program files installed on the computer. These registry values are what tell the computer how to handle that installation, so while some programs MIGHT work, most will not work well or at all without.
Hope this helped!

How do I download all my stuff from my current computer to a new computer?

You can easily and safely use a USB pen drive with a large capacity to transfer all the files one by one , folder by folder with special markings to note the copy into the respective drives. You can also segregate the new drives to your need with personal files, general files and public files. Also picture and video downloads also can be listed and saved.Connect the USB to the old PC and transfer by copy or cut , then connect the usb after safe removal to the new PC and pasting to the new location.

I use MS Money 2001. I bought a new PC and is changing from MS Windows XP Pro to Windows 7 Pro. I would like my ms money 2001 to continue working on new PC but I can't find the original disc to copy on...

Hi pjhmulder
Assuming MS Money 2001 and 2003 are compatible with W 7 , you could install MS Money 2003 on the new computer and copy the files from MS Money 2001 on the old computer to MS Money 2003 on the new computer . Make sure you don't erase the MS Money 2001 files before transfer has successfully been executed .
Best regards ,
fanaudi .

I have a belkin easy transfer cable. How do i transfer photo's

On the old computer, run Vista's "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard" to write one large file onto the old computer. The "export" file will contain your pictures.

Copy, via the transfer-cable, that one file to the new computer.

Run the "import" function of the Windows 7 Files and Settings Transfer Wizard to read the copied file.

Need to know how to transfer programs and files from old to new PC

There are three sets of items that you need to transfer.
It would be best to use an external USB drive and keep the data on the drive as a backup.

1. Settings (Internet favorites, desktop settings, cookies, address book, etc.)
2. Data (My Documents, and multimedia content)
3. Programs

It would be easy if the old computer was also a Dell; however, you can't simply "copy" to the new computer.

#1. Settings: There is a built-in utility called "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard". [Start] [All Programs] [Accessories] [System Tools] [Files and Settings Transfer Wizard]

#2. The transfer wizard has an option to copy "settings only", "Data Only", Settings and Data". Transfer only the settings and then transfer the data. It will go much smoother.

#3. Some programs are already on your new computer; however, unless the old computer was also a Dell, you will have to re-install most or all of your programs like MS Office, Printers, Scanners, Camera and Video applications, etc.

If you need more detail, please post a comment... Thanks .

Copy files from old computer and transfer to new computer

Although Vista comes with an Easy File Transfer Wizard it is not compatible with Windows 98.

You will need a CD burning program such as Nero Burning Suite or Creative CD Writer or here is a link to a FREE one.
