CHECKSUM CANNOT MOVE COMPUTER FROM A BLUE SCREEN

In order to understand what a checksum error is, it is important to first learn what a checksum is. A checksum is a redundancy check during a computer's start up process, which makes sure that the computer's data is intact and unhampered. The data is scanned and tested for accuracy, either based on how well it relates to data elsewhere or based on previous data that was stored on the same computer. Essentially, all of the bits of data in a particular document or file are added up and a number or hash is created. This number or hash can then be compared to the number or hash generated from the same file on another person's computer or at a previous time on the same computer.
When does a Checksum Error Occur?

Although a checksum error can occur at any time while a computer is comparing data, it is most commonly present during a computer's startup procedure. During a computer's start up processes, the BIOS settings, which are stored in a CMOS memory chip, are computed and then checked against the previous value. If the computed values do not match exactly, the computer warns the user with a checksum error message that the data may have been changed or corrupted between start up cycles. All BIOS programs present a different error and therefore will either continue with booting or refuse to boot until the problem is corrected.

cmos-error.jpg

Depending on the type and the severity of the error generated, there may be one of a variety of ways to rectify the issue. The most common cause of a checksum error during the startup process is a faulty battery that is not providing sufficient power to the motherboard when the computer is off. However, motherboard malfunctions and viruses can also contribute to checksum errors.
Other Types of Checksum Errors

Another type of checksum error may occur with any program at any time. It is usual for many programs to now provide checksum information when that program is downloaded. Using a checksum program or MD5 hash checker, a user can quickly compare the checksum of a downloaded program with the checksum that the software developer provides. This is a common way to make sure that users are downloading the proper program and that no data was corrupted during the download process. Checksum errors originating from download errors can easily be corrected by re-downloading the problematic program.

I have the same error msg when I uninstalled and reinstalled Skype. I am using windows XP

In some cases when you try to upgrade Skype from an earlier version to a newer version you may get the error message: "The Older version of Skype cannot be removed. Please contact your technical Support Group".
The error 1603 occurs during the process of uninstallation of the previous Skype version in case Skype is not able to find the cached PluginManager.msi file on your system.

First solution:
* Download and install Windows Installer CleanUp Utility from Microsoft site.
* Run the utility and remove "Skype Plugin Manager"
* Delete Skype\Plugin Manager folder manually. It is usually under folder C:\Program Files\Skype
* Install Skype 3.5.

Second Solution:
* Download the archive from:https://developer.sk...staller_fix.zip
* Unpack it to some folder. Make sure PluginManager.msi is located in same folder as fix.bat
* Run fix.bat Wait until the process is finished before proceeding
* Download version 3.5 and install it.

My printer refuses to print. The Red Status light came on so I checked and found there was a paper jam - cleared that. Can get green light to come on if I press the job cancel button but still cannot get...

Perform a Factory Reset

Turn the printer power switch OFF on the right side of the printer. Check that the front cover is closed.

Turn the printer power switch ON while holding down the GO button until the Toner, Drum, and Paper LEDs are lit.

Release the GO button. All LEDs will be off.

Press the GO button 8 times. The Ready LED will flash briefly while the printer is reset. After the printer is reset the Ready LED will be lit.

Print a Test Print Page

Print the Print Settings by pressing the GO button three times.

- If the Print Settings pages do not print, check for alarm lights on the printer. Clear the printer error before trying to print again.

- If the Print Settings pages print, the problem is isolated to printing from your computer. Verify the printer cable connects from the back of the computer directly to the printer. If the cable has become disconnected, loose, or connects through another device, the printer may not be able to print.

Check the Printer Driver Properties

Follow the instructions below based on the operating system installed on your computer.

Windows 7:

Click on the Windows icon => Control Panel => View Devices and Printers.

Right mouse click the Brother printer. Left click See What's Printing. The print queue will open. If print jobs are listed in the printer queue, click Printer (at the top of the window) and click Cancel All Documents to delete the pending print jobs. Click Yes to confirm deleting the print jobs.

Click Printer at the top of the window again. Make sure that Pause Printing and Use Printer Offline are not check marked. If either setting is marked, click on the check mark to remove it.

Click Properties from this Printer menu list.

Click the Ports tab. Verify the correct port is selected (LPT1 is using a parallel cable and USB is using a USB cable). Remember to click Apply if you select another port.

Click the General tab and Print Test Page button. The Windows test page should now print.

- If the Windows test page prints, try printing from a program.
Windows Vista:

Click on the Windows icon => Control Panel => Printers or under Hardware and Sound click Printer.

Right mouse click the Brother printer. Select Run as administrator and left click Open.

If the Windows test page prints, try printing from a program.

Windows XP and 2000:

1. For Windows XP Professional, click on Start => Printers and Faxes.

For Windows XP Home Edition, click on Start => Control Panel =>Printers and other hardware => Printer and Faxes.

For Windows 2000, click Start => Settings => Printers.

2. Double-click the Brother printer to open the print queue. If print jobs are listed in the printer queue, click Printer (at the top of the window) and click Cancel All Documents to delete the pending print jobs. Click Yes to confirm deleting the print jobs.

3. Click Printer at the top of the window again. Make sure that Pause Printing and Use Printer Offline are not check marked. If either setting is marked, click on the check mark to remove it.

4. Click Properties from this Printer menu list.

5. Click the Ports tab. Verify the correct port is selected (LPT1 is using a parallel cable and USB is using a USB cable). Remember to click Apply if you select another port.

6. Click the General tab and Print Test Page button. The Windows test page should now print.

- If the Windows test page prints, try printing from a program.

Im trying to delete a pending which will not go

You can use the following command to stop spooler at DOS prompt.

net stop spooler

When the spoller stops, you can open the printer dialog and try to delete it. When it gets deleted, go to DOS and type:

net start spooler

Hopefully, this will solve your problem

Error: 0xC004D401 an unauthorized change was made to windows The security processor reported a system file mismatch error.

I suspect a program or driver for a hardware device was just installed prior to this error. Best thing to do is to use Windows Restore and use a restore point dated before the first occurance of the error. You may need to repeat this process choosing previous restore points until system is back to normal or you have run out of restore points.
Here's how:
Startup computer and go into safe mode (Press F5 key as computer is starting up but before you see the Windows logo screen).
Open your Windows Vista Start menu, select All Programs, select System Tools, and then choose System Restore.
Use the System Restore Wizard to choose a restore point/date that was created before the error started occurring on your Windows Vista computer.
Revert your system configuration to this same restore point.

If error still occurs and you had other restore points, you can repeat process with older restore points.

If you have gone back several points and still cannot, you may have not choice but to do a full Windows restore. This can result in a loss of data.

If you get to this point, re-post here for instructs on how to possibly save data before doing a full restore.

Having problems deleting pending documents

Assuming you have a modern windows pc, You will need to manually stop the print service. Do this by running the command "net stop spooler" from the "run" line. Then go to "C:\WINDOWS\System32\spool\PRINTERS" and delete all the files from there. After these files are gone, start the spooler service again by running "net start spooler". You should be all set after that.
