Bissell upright vac, brush on bottom does not rotate

When power is turned on the motor sounds fine but the large brushes on bottom of vac do not rotate and therefore do not pick up any dirt. Do I need a new belt?

I have a bissel revolution. The brush does not rotate and there is a strong rubber smell. I purchased a new number 8 belt and put it on. No go. I unhinged one side (opposite end from belt) of the brush and it started to turn. When I pop it back in the groove, it stops and seems stuck. Am I not putting the brush in properly? How do I replace the belt properly and reinsert the brush properly?

Hi, I have a Bissell revolution also. Smelled burning rubber type smell. Belt is still in place. Can remove roller brush and it will can be rotated while holding both ends. Any ideas? I have removed and replaced the belt in case it was slipping. The silver bar that belt is looped over will not turn.

    Thanks

The front brush motor will not engage until the power is turned on and the handle is in the down position. In the upright position the brush motor wont engage. Typical faults will be the belt is broken and needs replacing or the fornt brush motor needs replacing.

Brush does not turn, keeps burning the belts in half. Brush motor works fine. Brush itself seems to be the problem. Seems to have a slight catch when turning by hand. Could this be enough to cause the brush motor axle to burn through a new belt in less than a minute? Can you take the brush unit apart to clean, or just find a replacement?

Brush roller not spinning. belt, spindle okay. roller taken out and cleaned, no thread. replaced but no dice. ???

Use only BISSELL Style 10 Replacement Belts (#32074) in your BISSELL PowerForce Bagless.
  1. Unplug cleaner from electrical outlet.
  2. With Rotating Floor Brush removed from vacuum cleaner, grasp old Drive Belt and remove from Motor Pulley. Discard old Drive Belt.
  3. Place new Drive Belt over Motor Pulley and stretch other end over Rotating Floor Brush in the space between the bristles.
  4. Place ends of Rotating Floor Brush down into slots on sides as shown.
  5. Turn Rotating Floor Brush by hand several times in the direction of Motor Pulley. If properly installed, Drive Belt will center itself on Rotating Brush.
  6. Reposition Brush Cover and snap back into place. Check to be sure all three latches are secured.
  7. When you turn on the vacuum, do you see the motor that spins the belt spinning at the bottom? If not, it sounds like you may have a burned out motor.

How do I change the belt on a Bissell Powerforce model 3522-1?

this is how you do it Lower handle and place vacuum on floor so you can see bottom of power head. Examine the power head to remember what it should look like when finished. Unscrew the four screws (Phillips screwdriver). Lift off cover. Lift out brush. Remove belt from brush and motor shaft. Place new belt around motor shaft, then around brush just prior to reinserting brush. Make sure the belt is placed correctly. Reinsert brush in slots. Rotate manually toward motor a few time to center the belt. Replace cover and screws. Tighten securely. Check cover to make sure it's properly secured.

My broan cv30 purchased in 1996 carpet power head unit sucks up dirt and rocks but will not pick string or yarns up from carpeting. I find myself picking it up. It is sucking fine dirt and small...

It's possible you simply need a new belt or roller brush. Place the power nozzle upside-down turn the vacuum on. Ensure the brush turns. If it doesn't, the belt has broken or is too worn to turn it. Replace the belt. Make sure the tension is properly set prior to reassembling the power nozzle.
Next, with the power nozzle upside down, run the flat of your palm across the brush area. If you can barely feel the bristles, it needs replaced. A good brush will loosen the yarn and strings, but needs to be cleaned periodically.
As long as the powerhead motor is running, there is no need to replace it. If it's not running, look for a reset button and press it. There could also be a broken wire, loose connection, or bad switch causing a power head motor to not operate..

Brushes stopped rotating

Needs a new drive belt. Find the screws holding the bottom panel onto the floor section of the vac. take out those screws and you should see the motor and the brushes and a broken belt underneath the panel. Check that the brushes spin freely. If not you may have something like hair or string or something jamming the brush. If so cut out the obstruction and then rotate the brushes again and look to see if they rotate evenly, without wobbling because in some vacs if the brushes become jammed and run like that for a while sometimes it wears out the bearings or bushings holding the brush in place and if they are worn you need to replace those as well or when you replace the belt and run the vac it wont take long to break the belt again.

Beater brush

Note: The brush will not rotate when the machine is locked in the upright position, because an internal micro-switch turns the brush motor off.

- Make sure brush switch on the handle is on.

- Check the belt through the clear brush cover. If this appears damaged or broken, take your machine to a local BISSELL Authorized Service Center to have it replaced. If the belt is intact, please continue checking the following:
- Ensure both power switches are turned on when you check for brush rotation.
- Unplug the power cord and remove the handle completely. Slide handle back into the lower section of handle, ensuring the screw is in tight. If the handle is not aligned properly, this will affect the power of the brush motor.
- Look for debris wrapped around the brush (i.e. string, hair, fibers, etc.). When the machine is unplugged, cut away any visible hair, fibers or debris from the brush roller. This brush is NOT removable from the machine.
- If something has become lodged in the foot and the brush shuts off, turn off the vacuum and unplug this from the outlet. You can now remove the obstruction. The brush will automatically reset when the vacuum is plugged in and turned back on.
