Question about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX7 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Camera froze up w/ no button function

My DMC-FX7 and I were taking pictures of a sunset and then it locked up and wouldn't close the shutter when I wanted to take pictures OR let me access the menu from the menu button, or any other buttons, ANY of them. On the SCN dial mode, the menu cycles upward continuously unless I hold down onto one of the buttons in the menu circle. I have turned it off, restarted it, disconnected and reconnected the battery, and nothing. WHAT DO I DO????!!!! :(

Still does not help me fix the camera. The question remains, what do I do?

  • Brian VanArsdel Oct 08, 2008

Exact same problem...is there any way to clean out that zoom switch as described by the Panasonic Tech?

...appreciate any help as other than the "frozen" controls this camera still works perfectly!

but how do you fix the issue with the zoom? can it be fixed by average joe camera owner?? or is it a must to go to the manufacturer to repair it? and if so, how costly is it??
This is a fantastic camera, but logic details cost effectiveness too.

Hello, these units have a very fine zoom switch and can get damaged by a drop or fine sand. the zoom switch sits under the actual button. if you turn the camera on in camera mode and the display is showing the zoom on screen display then you know it is the switch.

Tried to take pictures of lightening last night and couldn't. My lens kept going in and out and wouldn't focus so wouldn't allow me to shoot. Then I kept getting a BUSY across the screen. ...

For this kind of pictures, Don't try to focus on a lightning, it is to quick and mabe the overall brightness is not enough for your camera to focus.
So you can try to focus on something at infinity, if you manage then, put your focus on manual before re focusing, this way you will be able to take as many pictures as you want.

You can also try to focus manually directly.

And for you information the best way to take a lightning picture is to put your camera in bulb mode, use a remote control, open the shutter and close it as soon as you'v seen a lightning.

Hope this helps.
and good shooting !

It may that your battery has lost its charge, or has leaked? If it won't hold a charge try taking it out wiping it and trying again if that doesn't work you may need a new battery.
