Re: HTC S720 Smartphone
Try a soft reset (remove and replace battery), If your sure you haven't installed anything that may have remapped the keys, next option is a hard reset (all data will be lost, make sure you back it up)
There are two methods to performing a hard reset
Select Start > Accessories > Clear Storage. Enter 1234 where prompted and select YES.
Power the device off. Press and hold the left and right soft keys. Power the device on while holding these keys. Follow the on-screen prompts to factory reset the device.
If you find you can hard reset using the second method you know that your keyboard is ok, if the it refuses to reset its looking like an electrical problem which could be the keyboard or motherboard..
A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

I notice that your smartphone have softkey, meaning that there is no phisycal button. There is no description on what your phone does or does not do, so I have to guess here. If your phone is rooted, then I suggest you install any unofficial ROM for your device that have the Nexus softkey. Thais if the problem is with the digitizer or a hradware problem. Before doing that I would recommend that you re-flash the current Android OS that you are using, since it couold also be a problem with the firmware.
If your keys lock then this will not work but here is the instructions to do hard reset. WARNING !!!!hard reset will erase all of your info and your phone will be set to factory. By the way if you take it to an AT&T corporate(not walmart) there should be no charge for them to get your password for your phone.
A hard reset erases all data off of the HTC Tilt.
1. Press and hold the left and right softkeys at the same time.
2. While continuing to hold both buttons, use the stylus to press the Reset button at the bottom of your device.
3. Release the Reset button and continue to hold down the 2 softkeys until you see a message about deleting all data from the device.
4. Press the Phone button to complete the hard reset.
the HTC S710 does not support 3G. You get quad-band GSM with GPRS and
EDGE, which should keep you connected (albeit at moderate speeds) both
at home and abroad.
however HTC is releasing the s730, which is a 3G
phone and is basically the next model up from the s710; however,
although it is the same form factor, there are some visual differences.

Try to hard reset it. You, most probably, know that a hard reset will set your device to its factory defaults, thus deleting every program you have installed, as well as you personal data. Hope you have a recent backup, to be restored after the hard reset procedure. Anyway, to do it, press and hold both softkeys (the ones marked with '-'), and, whilst keeping them pressed, briefly press the reset pin (at the botton of the device) with the stylus pen. Keep pressing the keys until a warning message comes up. Then, release the keys and follow instructions on the screen (if any). Hope you are able to bring your device back to life. Regards,Carlos
To perform a hard reset 1. Press and hold the Left SOFT KEY and the Right SOFT KEY, and at the same time, use the stylus to press the RESET button at the lower left
2. Release the stylus, but continue pressing the two soft key buttons. Release them only when you see the following message on your device screen: “Press Send to restore manufacturer default, or press other keys to cancel.“
You will have to do a master or "hard" reset which will reset your phone to factory state. This can be done via Tapping Start > Settings > System tab, then tap Clear Storage and input "1234". Conversely you can also hard reset your phone by holding both your softkeys (the physical keys that map to left and right menu options) and using your stylus to hit the reset button while holding those two softkeys.
