But the little circle on the bottom of the screen is going round and round them after about 3-5min it shows a apple symbol but then it lites up with a white background and a sad ipod that has a triangle with a ! in it and then goes back to the please wait screen.

Re: ipod sad face 30 gb
Does your hard drive make a grinding or clicking sound? If not (meaning if the hdd is silent or sounds normal) there is an issue with your motherboard. There are third party iPod repair services, that will fix it for cheap. Even better, I found an DYI iPod repair guide,so
you can do it yourself too, not that difficult. Part is available
onEbay. If you can't do it yourself, have a tech savy friend do it

It looks like there is some kind of software problem with your iPod.
First, power up your iPod (showing the sad face).
Try pressing the center and menu buttons at the same time, and holding it like this until the iPod shuts off (after about 5 seconds).
This should 'force-restart' the iPod.
If this doesn't work, plug your iPod into your computer, open iTunes,
select your iPod in the left-hand menu and click Restore. Note that all songs/photos/videos will be erased by this procedure.
Should this also fail, you can try leaving your iPod turned on (with the sad face), and wait for the battery to completely run out (the iPod should not turn on at all anymore). Leave the iPod unpowered for about an hour, recharge it, and retry the above steps.
Hope this helped,
could be bad charger or time to replace the battery. lots of places sell new ipod batteries.
does it work if you leave it plugged into your computer for a few hours? if it does not then its a bad abttery.
The reason a sad face appears is because the hard drive is not being read for what ever reason. Unfortunatly 90% or so need the hard drive replaced. Try these first, with the face down, try to start up the ipod while tapping on the back. A hard drive is designed exatly like an record player and sometimes the arm gets stuck. Also a soft reset (Menu and Middle button at the same time for about five seconds) can often jiggle the arm free. I have also seen low battery's cause sad faces but you would need a wall charger to test this and you would have seen signs of a low battery. Hope this helps.
