Dell 944 photo all in one printer

My printer ran out of black ink; I installed a new cartridge and it did not recognize it. I continuted to use the colour cartridge; have installed a new one; it does not recognize it either. When I try to print the moniter comes up with: "UNSUPPORTED CARTRIDGE". I have tried on multiple occasions, removing and reinstalling the cartridges; nd also making certain the tapes were removed from the cartridges. What exactly is wrong and how do I fix it? Please and Thanks so much!

Upon replacing the color cartridge, I keep getting a message telling me that the cartridge is empty and that I should remove the protective tape. The tape has been removed and the cartridge is the same one that came with the machine and has been refilled. I got these same messages when I installed an Office Max brand cartridge.

I have exactly the same problem except I refilled my black cartridge. It worked the first 2 times I fill it then not the second. Peculiar as I have yet to use a 1/10 of the colour cartridge.

Is there a reset on the printer????

  • Anonymous Jul 19, 2008

I have a Dell 962 All In One Ink Jet Printer. My color cartridge ran out of ink and so I replaced it with a Dell brand ink cartridge. I keep getting a message telling me that the right ink cartridge is missing. The tape is removed, I cleaned the contact points with a soft, non lint cloth and alcohol and tried reinstalling the cartridge multiple times. No luck. I called Dell and told them of my problem. They sent me a replacement color ink cartridge. It is doing the same thing as the first replacment color cartridge. I've now cleaned all the contract point inside the printer but still no luck. Can anyone help? I hate to pay Dell the $39.00, out-of-warranty support fee.

Thanks so much for any info or support you can offer.

    Very Best,

    Kathy B.

I too am having a problem with my (used once) black ink cartridge. Getting error message 1102 "cartridge error". Also receiving a "unsupported cartridge" message. Cartridge is full (shows on monitor). I suspect it is a faulty cartridge. It printed out a great test page after installation, but that was all I was able to get out it. It is a Dell cartridge. I followed all troubleshooting tips to a tee...but no luck.

Ran out of black ink, purchased new dell black ink cartridge and repalced. Now getting right cartridge not installed correctly or cartridge not supported. Printer goes through the printing motions but pages come out blank? Printer also has the flashing exclamation point next to the power button?

needless to say, the cover is not opened and Ihave changed the cartridge several times.

    HELP!

Set printer to print multiple copies. Put in less amount of paper. While printer is waiting for more paper, change cartridge.

I have a dell all in one printer 944. When I turn it on it keeps sending the message, "change ink cartridge" I have changed the cartridge twice and message remains the same. Is it broken?

Are you using Dell Series 5 ink cartridges?

Please unplug the printer from the wall. Now remove the power brick from the back of the printer for 60 seconds. Now plug everything back in. This will reset any error messages the printer has. Now open the printer with the power on and the cartridges should go to the center to be replaced. Take out both Dell Series 5 ink cartridges and make sure the tape is off the cartridges and insert both back in and make sure the seat properly and latch. Close the printer and it should print an alignment page. If you still get the error message, please read bleow.

Black cartridge = black side(left side) Color cartridge = Color side(right side)

Photo Cartridge = Black side(left side) Color cartridge = Color side(right side)

Dell Series 5 ink cartridges have a sensor in them that cannot be reset. Article on refilling Dell ink cartridges.

Dell Series 5 ink cartridges can be purchased at Staples, Walmart or Dell's Website.

It is also possible to get a new ink cartridge with a bad sensor. Please take it to the place of purchase for a refund or a replacement one.

Dell 944 instruction to install new ink cartridge

Replacing Ink Cartridges

CAUTION: Before performing any of the procedures listed in this section, read and

follow the safety information in "CAUTION: SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS" on page 9.

Dell ink cartridges are only available through Dell. You can order more ink online at

www.dell.com/supplies or by phone. To order by phone, see "Ordering Supplies" on page 2.

Dell recommends Dell ink cartridges for your printer. Dell does not provide warranty coverage

for problems caused by using accessories, parts, or components not supplied by Dell.

1 Turn on your printer.

2 Lift the printer unit, and position the scanner support between the tabs to hold it open.

The ink cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loading position unless the printer is busy.

3 Press down on the ink cartridge lever to raise each ink cartridge lid.

4 Remove the old ink cartridges.

5 Store the cartridges in an air-tight container, such as the storage unit you received with

your photo cartridge, or dispose of them properly.

6 If you are installing new ink cartridges, remove the sticker and transparent tape from the

back and bottom of each ink cartridge.

7 Insert the new ink cartridges. Make sure the black or photo ink cartridge is secure in the

left ink cartridge carrier, and the color ink cartridge is secure in the right ink cartridge

carrier.

8 Snap each lid closed.

9 Lift the printer unit, and hold the scanner support up while lowering the printer unit until
it is completely closed.

Dell 944 error message 1102 after fitting new DellBlack Cartridge

hi there,

you can try these steps:

try to remove the new black cartridge. get a clean cloth. gently wipe the copper strip of the cartridge. unplug the power cable of the printer. gently wipe the contacts of the black cartridge carrier (where you put the black cartridge in). close the carrier, plug the power cable back in. install the black cartridge. then check for the error code.
if you still have same error code, try the old cartridge.
if the old cartridge still works, you need to contact dell for the replacement of the black cartridge (if you purchase the black cartridge from dell)
if the old cartridge is also giving same error. try the steps on the color cartridge as well, it might be with the color cartridge error.
or both.
worst case scenario the contacts on the printer carrier might be broken already.
but in this kind of situation. 98% it's the cartridge that's causing the issue.

have a great day :)

Black ink not recognized

Select printer, properties.
Select printing preferences, select advanced.
Select more options.

Make sure you do NOT have Use color cartridge for all black printing selected.

(I had set that a while ago when my black cartidge ran out when the kids had a paper due - I forgot I had reset it. Once my color cartidge ran low, everything printed pink).

Let me know if that works for you.
