I put a blank disc in for recording purposes (the exact same type of discs I have used on the same machine before--a Sony DVD-RW) and I get a Recording Error that says "Cannot record on disc." There is also an error code of 4 54040990. I tried another disc from the same pack just to see if something was defective with the first disc but got the same error code.

- You guys are awesome! I never would have thought that was the problem, but the discs record perfectly now! Sorry it took so long to get back to you, but I just bought the cleaner DVD disc. I must say I was quite skeptical since some of my DVDs (different brand) worked, while this particular batch did not. Oh well, all is well that ends well. Thanks again!

Thank you very much for your suggestion. We will try that. We will obtain disc cleaner tomorrow. I have another question. On the manual (page 13), it goes VCR --> DVD and VCR <-- DVD. How do I do this? Where are the instructions? Thanks in advance for any reply.

- My Accurian DVD recorder is now working perfectly. When I read the suggestion of buying disc cleaner, I immediately looked for one in eBay for $5.00. It arrived yesterday and tried it on my DVD recorder/player right away. Alas! It worked. You just saved me the whole price of a new DVD recorder.

Hi there,

Try using a DVD / CD cleaner disc in the unit - this might fix the problem.
