Sonys are funny check and see if its only burned cds its doing it on or store boughts too
remove the cds and the metal top (after unplugging it of course locate the cd mechanism and clean the laser (little plastic lens} with a q tip and alcohol f you can't find it plug it back in and look for the red glow of the laser then unplug again and clean the lens. This is exactly what was wrong with mine. and it now works great. Mine was gunked up too. They don't like burned cds though.
p.s. if you can't get it to work I would like to buy your remote if it came with one.
I agree with cleaning the laser. I just happened to do a search for sony c67es because I had to re-hook mine up. Let's face it, it's an old cd player (20 years old this year). But I also have to face the fact that it's also the first and most reliable cd player I've ever owned.
Since I got this player I've tried to replace it with:
1) A 6 cd changer by Onkyo (6 cds... 1 better... yea right). Total disaster. Had nothing but problems and finally gave up on it after having it back to be fixed twice.
Marantz CC4003 5 cd changer with Mp3 / Wma cd capability. Bought a refurbished one online. Had some issues from the start but eventually played ok. Mostly wanted to be able to load 5 mp3 cds and shuffle them. When it was working it was great. Two weeks ago it stopped recognizing any cds (after 6 months). Bringing it in tomorrow for service (under warranty).
So now I'm playing my old Sony which still sounds great. Bought a laser cleaner cd and it sounds better than ever. And I've brought this thing to parties and god knows what else abuse I've put it through. Just wish it played mp3 cd's. But I refuse to get rid of it.
