Air conditioner blower

I have a Carrier air conditioner that the blower only turns on when set to heat but not when set to cool. I took the panels off and the unit gets cold but the blower does not turn on. What could cause the blower to turn on with heater but not with air conditioner?

Thanks,

Walter Pacheco

It sounds like a thermostat or sequensor problem in the air handler

If you are handy with electronics then turn the furnace off and jump the G and R terminals at the circuit board. restore the power and see if the fan comes on. If it does, then your thermostat or thermostat wires are bad.

If the unit still does not blow on high speed then the problem is either the fan itself or the circuit board. The fan is easy to check. simply move another motor speed wire to the same connection on the board (not the white wire). if it comes on now then your high speed portion of the motor is bad and the whole motor should be replaced. If this test does not work then I think we can make a safe guess that the circuit board is bad.

I have the same problem. Did you get yours fixed?
If so, what was the solution?

Thanks

From your discription... I would think you have a problem in the thermostat. Does the fan run in cool if you put the fan in the ON position. Some older t-stats have a jumper between terminals that brings the fan on in cool. You will need to find out if there is low voltage power between the green t-stat wire and common in the air handler. If you have a Gas furnace the fan comes on by a temp control also there is a door switch. If the door is off the door switch will be open. and no fan.

Have old Carrier standing pilot furnace. Furnace calls for heat, but blower does not come on for almost 1 minute. How can I make blower some on sooner??

If it has a honeywell fan control, the cover can be pulled off and the setting can be lowered by adjusting the small lever on the dial, if it is a timed control it probably has no adjustment unless it was replaced with an adjustable fan control.

With thermostat set to cool and fan to auto ac unit will not turn on.blower in furnace work and the filter has been replaced?

Hello, try jumping the r and g terminals on the tstat subbase, if this turns on the blower motor then you have a bad tstat. If not then chevk for 24 volts between r and c, if you have 24 volts there then the relay on the control board is bad and the board must be replaced. Does the blower run when set to heat?

FAN MOTOR CONTINUES RUNNING AFTER HEATING CYCLE IS COMPLETED BLOW

Check the thermostat. Make sure it is set for AUTO fan not ON fan. If that is OK replace the fan relay.

BLOWER NOISE

Could be a loose blower wheel. It has slipped and touching the sides of the blower housing.
Turn off the power to the nit.
Remove the 2 bolts holding the blower in place.
Make yourself a wiring schematic.
Remove the wires.
Be careful not to touch the capacitor.
Remove the blower housing.
Clean the blower blades.
Spin the wheel to see where it is hitting.
Loosen the set screw on the motor shaft and adjust your blower wheel.

Furnace runs but won't ignite.

Error code 12 is blower on after power up. Meaning: after you turn on power to the furnace for aprox. 60-90 seconds the blower will run. The blower should then shut down and the furnace should go through the start up process, providing that the thermostat is set for and calling for heat. If the furnace fails to start after blower shut down there should be a new fault/error code. However if the blower continues to run longer then 90 seconds and continues with the same fault code more then likely the circuit board is bad. Please let me know if this was helpful and give me a rating. Good luck.

Your cooling coil may be frozen. Turn the fan on and the cooling to off so air will circulate to defrost the coil. After air circulation is re-established in about 90 minutes turn the cooling back on. Operate the system with the fan on when in the cooling mode should eliminate the freezing problem.
