Question about Haier HDN455 Dehumidifier
THE UNIT JUST STOPPED WORKING AN IS COMPLETELY DEAD.
The "Zener Diode ZD2" solution works. To check if the diode is shorted, use a multimeter to measure its resistance. If the diode's resistance is only a few ohms (in both directions), it's shorted. The ZD2 diode is clearly labeled and is located in the upper left-hand corner of the circuit board. Further evidence of a short may be a scorch mark on the back of the circuit board (just behind the ZD2 diode). To replace, purchase a 5.1V diode from Radio Shack. They come in a pack of two for about $1.40. Use a solder iron to melt out the old one and then simply solder in the new one. Make sure you get the orientation of the new diode correct. The black band on the diode should be toward the top of the circuit board. If your fix worked, the red "tank full" light should blink when you give the dehumidifier power. Remember, in order for the dehumidifier to actually kick on, the tank sensor switch must be depressed. You can use a piece of tape to temporarily hold it down (or your finger for that matter) while your troubleshoot. Hope this helps.

Check Zener Diode ZD2 on the board to see if it's shorted.
If it's shorted replace it.

I can confirm that replacing ZD2 worked. Didn't even know that the Shack still sold individual electronic components like diodes in 2014! btw, they are now $1.99 for a 2 pack, lol! Thanks guys, sure beats having to replace the whole appliance

The only solution to fix this is to get it repaired.
the only thing you can check is that the bucket switch is not hung up, or in fact a wire has not come off it. If you have power going to it, the next step would to be is to see if the on/off switch is working.
