Question about Asrock K7VM3 Motherboard

1 Answer

Asrock K7VM3 not powering on.

Hi there. Ive had this machine for almost 10 years. I bought it brand new and from a good deal. Windows 98 SE, cd-rom, floppy 3 1/4, AMD Duron 1.6Ghz, 256 MBs, HD 80 GBs.

It has always worked fine and with no problem at all; my old man is still using it to work because it really didd work better than other PCs on the market.

My oldman decided to expand the memory (DDR1) from 256 MBs to 1 GB, or at least 512 MBs.

When I did the change (I happen to work as an IT Consultant here in Argentina, so I know how to do this as to ride a bike) the computer failed to start correctly. It only shows the power LED and the HDD led on, and fans are working, does not leave any bad smell or anything,...
But I get no video at all.
Black screen.

Only things I did?
shut down
unplug all cords
de magnatize tower
open box
remove DIMM 0 (256 MBs DDR 400 module)
apply DIMM 0 (512 MBs DDR 400 module)
close box
plug power , keyvboard, and monitor cords.

try power up

don't know what did I do wrong or if I was cursed by the God of PCs
But I sure wish to give my old man the computer back in order.

thnx in advance.

I would guess that it's most likely a memory compatibility problem (especially if the computer made a series of beeps when you powered it up). I seem to recall that ASRock boards only work with single-sided memory modules (though my memory may be faulty and it might be only double-sided). If your original RAM and the new stick are different in that respect, the first thing to do would be to try one that matches (after making sure that the computer still works with the old RAM and you didn't somehow kill it during the upgrading).

Asrock k7vm3 audio driver

Hi saj, click on this link to open ASRock K7VM3 the driver download page.
Create a folder on you're desktop & name it sound. Download the driver; VIA AC'97 audio driver ver:A1mu520c1 into the sound folder. Uncompress the .zip file within the sound folder. You need to install the driver through device manager. To open device manager, right click once on my computer & left click properties. Click the hardware tab & than click the device manager button.
Scroll down to sound, audio and game controller.
Right click once on the yellow ! point & left click once on update driver. Windows hardware wizard will open. Click No, not at this time. Than click the next button. Another window will open. Left click once in the circle next to, Install from a list or specific location (Advanced). Than click the next button. Again, another window will open. We want to remove the green check mark next to, Search removable media (floppy, CD-ROM...). Click the green check mark once & it will go away.
Click the browse button, click the + sign next to my computer. Find you’re desktop folder & open it. Open the sound folder you created. Click once on the Audio_XP_2K_ME_98_VIA(A1mu520c1) folder so it is high lighted. Than click OK. Windows will find the correct driver software & install it.
If this fails check you're bios & make sure the onboard sound is set to enable or auto. Try the above install again.

Good Luck!

Sounds like ur screwed. You are dealing with 9 year old software, that was out of date, and not supported for the last 8 years.
Time to upgrade.
