Belt knob on/off position - does not lock

Hi there,
when I turn the lever / handle to put the belt in the off (red arrow to red arrow) position, it does not lock into place. Any suggestions?

I should have clarified. The head? did not stay in the Belt Off position when it was off the machine. Once I put it on the vacumm itself, it stayed in place.

If it doesn't lock, then maybe you haven't turned quite far enough. Could also be that the belt is so stretched, that it isn't holding in the locked position.

I can't change the belt on my Ultimate G Diamond Edition

You have to take the nozzle off. Then twist the handle to OFF position to catch and stretch the belt, put the nozzle back and then twist the knob to ON.
Instructions with pictures HERE
There is video manual on the front page on goodvac.com too...

Good Luck,

Kirby sentria belt install

Make sure to follow this sequence (starting from the nozzle off and green arrows on the knob and label matching):
1. Turn the knob all the way to match the red arrows (make sure that as you are doing so the hook inside of the nozzle hoes through the belt and stretches it - you will feel that knob is prettu hard to turn)
2. Put the nozzle on the unit and fix it in the place with the latch.
3. Turn the knob back to match green arrows
There are some more detailed instructions and pictures on goodvac.com
YOU'RE DONE

Vibrating – that usually happens on some short fiber or very dense carpets. When nozzle goes against the carpet fiber Kirby starts jumping. Try vacuuming the same place while facing opposite way.

Belt – red arrows means DISENGAGE. When you install the nozzle on the Kirby unit while green arrows match you will not be able to turn it on red. You must follow sequence (starting from nozzle off the Kirby, green arrows match, Kirby front lifter all the way up by pressing one of the pedals):
1. Turn Kirby knob to match red arrows. You will feel some tension and hook inside of the nozzle is supposed to catch the belt and stretch forming a loop for the Kirby shaft.
2. Put the nozzle on the Kirby and lock it on with the latch.
3. Twist the knob back to match the green arrows. YOU ARE DONE

Go to GoodVac.com Kirby vacuum online manual. There are some small details that you may want to pay attention to if you have removed the brush roll to install a new belt. Also there are some pictures that will help you understanding the process.

Belt not locking

With the nozzle off of the vac., turn the big knob on the front until it locks. (will only turn one direction) Put the nozzle back on the vac, lock it down, turn the knob again and the belt will be on the spindle and you should be set to go. I hope tho that you put on a new belt, they stretch after a short time and will start slipping under load.

Brush Roll won't switch positions

The adjustment knob on the hood of the machine is a plastic "arm" that prevents the belt tensioner from tightening up the v-belt so that the roller will stop or start. If the knob is adjusted while the handle is back, it can break the plastic arm off and then the function will not work. This knob should only be adjusted with the handle in the upright position. Usually, if the arm is broken, the roller will still turn when the handle is lowered and will not turn off when the knob is selected to the bare floor. If the brush roll will not switch on , it is usually a problem with the belt(s). You should replace the belts yearly. They can look fine, but be worn out.

Attachment probs

Hi- Do you have a manual for the vacuum? My manual says to raise the headlight hood and then flip out the l-shaped handle on the belt lifter and turn it until the red arrows line up. Turn the accessory lock all the way to the left and the front should lift off. Then take the attachment hose and hook the two hooks over the bar and then push the hose up against the vacuum and lock into place by turning lever to the right. Does this help? Its kinda hard to explain without the pics.
