we tried to reset it as you said, nothing is happening! No power at all. Totally off!

  • susanirene May 20, 2008

I used a generic ink for the black ink. Do I have to use dell ink?

  • susanirene May 20, 2008

I plugged into a another outlet, still nothing yet. checking all the wires. did I break the printer?

  • susanirene May 20, 2008

I used replacement ink brand new, it says it replaces dell M4640

  • susanirene May 21, 2008

  • susanirene May 21, 2008

First and foremost, make sure that you have used original ink cartridges. Using refilled or generic cartridges can cause failures.

Second, try a reset. Unplug the printer from the power source and PC, wait about 2 minutes, replug to power source while holding the power button on.

Hope that helps..

Check your power source if it is live. Try another device to see if it works. If it doesnt it looks like a faulty power socket. Try plugging in to a different socket.

If that does not work, try using a different power cable for the printer if available..

Yes, nowadays companies are resorting to this dirty trick to make customers buy only their own inks..you get all sorts of issues. Please try with an original ink cartridge and see if the issue is resolved. You can even try using the same old cartridge to see if it works, just as a troubleshooting step.

Also, make sure the power cables are fine and properly connected, and the power outlet is viable.

    No try the original inks.

Hmm..thats very strange, If the power socket is good, and the power cables are good, something must have happened to the printer. It is probably best to get it serviced or call Dell support, I feel

The first thing to try is a hard reset. Unplug it and replug it in and see if anything happens. by dead, does it have any indication of being on? Please let me know if it is totally off or what. thanks

If you take out the cartridge and try the old one does anything happen?

  • Benjamin Patri
    Benjamin Patri May 20, 2008

was the old cartridge a dell or generic, most printers require only the manufacturer's ink

  • Benjamin Patri
    Benjamin Patri May 20, 2008

Try cleaning the connections between the cartridge and the printer

you could also try contacting dell support and they should be able to tell you exactly why this happened. I am not as familiar with their printers but they are excellent help when you need them

The only other thing to try before contacting dell about this is to put the dell cartridge in and unplug it again, but I don't think that will work. Possible something fried itself when the new cartridge was put in. Let me know if you need the dell number and I will find it for you. good luck

Have a hp photosmart premium c309 and have changed the ink cartridge and the black ink is not printing well. All the other colors prink well

HP Photosmart Premium C309 not printing black

Got that problem also, Black would not print but dark grey would be printed ???
What i did and it worked was reset to factory settings, unpluging the printer for ± 25 seconds
holding 3 and # for and other 25 seconds went and after pitting power back on
then re-enterring your setting, all went fine

Printer only won't print in black

My printer did that a few months ago. I tried everything to get it printing black but in the end I had to take the ink cartridge back and return a new one. Some ink cartridges dry out when they are being shipped if not stored in proper conditions.

Why won't my CX9400F recognize Epson ink cartridges

The Epson CX9400F printer seems to require replacement of all the color ink cartridges, even if only the Black is empty.

I print almost exclusively in Black, but with my first change of Black, I was forced to change all the color. At the time I thought Epson did not provide completely filled color ink cartridges.

Just yesterday, I replaced Black and the printer complained it did not recognize the rest of color cartridges. So I replaced all the other color ink cartridges and now it works fine.

You might want to check out www.clickinks.com for cheaper, mail order alternatives which are Epson ink compatible, if you are not in a hurry.

Black ink not printing

I presume you changed the black cartridge. Did you get any error? Try wiping the face of the cartridge with a damp cloth. Sometimes the ink dries up and the jets can't work.

Black ink is full but does not print.

Did you make sure that the cart was placed well and the plastic hook secures the cart on top?

If you have used Easy Jet carts, you can stop here and give the whole machine a push to the bin!
Easy Jet carts and some other generic ink carts clogg the fine filter in front of the nozzles which cant be cleaned anymore.

The ph as a spare part is more costly than a new mfc 240c at a price discount!

But you can try this at least:
Use a new original brother carts (BK/C/Y/M). place carts and secure them! (this procedure will consume some ink!)
press menu then start bk copy then fourtimes arrow-up button. machine will be in maintenance mode. press 7 then 6 then 4 then start bk copy. machine will refresh ink in tubes and ph
and will do some cleaning cycles. when finished press 7 then 6 then 3 then start bk copy to run a special power purge.
When finished press 9 then 9. After machine is back in normal state run a test print.
If you still cant see any bk the ph cant be fixed anymore.
