What has happened is that a hole has rusted through the tank. You might be able to prolong the replacement of the unit by draining it to a level below the leak and using epoxy radiator repair you get from an auto parts store. It has to be EPOXY. However, it will be a short matter of time before it will leak again, either around the repair or another place altogether. When tanks rust through in one spot it is an indication that corrosion has been eating away at the tank walls for a while. No tank replacement is available without replacing the whole unit.
