Blurry image on LCD and blurry image recorded on CF card

I have a Canon PowerShot A80 digital camera which has served me well over the past 4 years or so but today suddenly, I found that the image on the LCD was blurry and when I snapped, the recorded image in the camera was extremely blurry. Please can someone tell me what the problem could be and what to do about it?

Hello, I also have the same problem. It started suddenly. I have two A80 cameras. One I use frequently and the other not. Both started to present the similar problem on the same time. I am, in contact to Canon to try understanding which is the problem.

Just like the others, have owned this a few years and it just started with the blurry, colored pictures. What you see distorted on the LCD is the picture you get.

I had the same problem. It got corrected when I turned off several options in the menu, and later turned them back on. I have left the assist beam and AiAF off and it works fine.

No image on the viewer; no image being recorded.

If your Canon A80 camera shows previously stored images of memory card in playback mode but does not show live view in camera mode to take fresh picture then ccd imager chip got defective and need to be replaced.
Local camera repair shop will help you to replace ccd imager chip because camera will take apart in detail and soldering work is needed.
Thanks.

Cannon PowerShot A80. Pictures come out with red tint and what appears to be horizontal lines across complete image. However, record video without problem.

If camera shows previously taken pictures in playback mode and does notshow live view to take fresh pictures then it is ccd imager chipfailure. CCD imager will be replaced in your Canon A80 camera.
Canon offers free of cost ccd imager replacement, click Canon CCD Imager Advisory for details.

So camera doesn't give live view to take picture? and you can view old / stored  pictures OK, is it?
If yes, then it is problem of CCD imager in Canon A80 and this part needs to be replaced.
Canon will repair your A80 free of cost as per announced scheme of CCD imager support.

Blurry picture on Canon A80

I don't know what you told that technician, but try this. Download some of your pictures and videos to your computer. If the downloaded pictures look fine on your computer, then the technician was right, and it's probably just a loose LCD ribbon cable connection.

BUT if the downloaded pictures also look blurry with stripes, then it's probably a faulty CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. BUT MAKE SURE you tell the technician this time that it is showing up on your DOWNLOADED pictures. I recommend trying again, and hope for a more knowledgeable tech on the line this time. Please check the following two links for more info:

CF card problem

Try a CF card reader. If that shows no files then try some file recovery software with the card reader acting like a drive. There are some nice freeware programs that might help. It may be that the files are corrupted then the solution is more difficult. Good Luck!
