I cannot find out how to acticate my fm traffic on my nuvi 265wt. the web site it says to go to only has products to buy, not an area to enter product id and receive activation code.

Check the information that came in your box. With my TomTom Lifetime Traffic and Maps, there was an "activation" number on one sheet of paper. I had to activate (per instructions) before I could enable the lifetime goodies.

Yes, the nuvi 265WT comes with a lifetime license for US traffic. That doesn't guarantee that you have a station in your area that broadcasts traffic information, and you must use the special power cable (which contains the antenna) for it to receive anything. You won't see anything on the screen unless/until the nuvi recognizes a traffic signal.

Free traffic in Canada should subscribe automatically without any need to put a code in. It has to be connected by the adapter through your car's lighter, a small icon of two cars will appear near the top left corner of your map, and with it you can change to the traffic map.
When the icon is green you are in the area covered by the free traffic service.

Many Garmin nuvi GPS units that are traffic capable come with a complimentary 1 (or more) month trial of the service. After that period is over, a subscription must be obtained to continue to receive traffic reports. The GPS will continue to provide routing and mapping without a traffic subscription however. Only the real-time data will be missing without a subscription.

Pay close attention to which traffic service you get. The MSN traffic service will be going away in the next year or two. The FM traffic service appears to continue to grow. Phone a Garmin Customer Service Rep to discuss your traffic subscription options and possibly active your choice with them over the phone.

Yes, you do not have to enter a subscription code for this unit because it comes with a lifetime subscription. All you have to do is be sure you plug your adapter in first, and also be in an area where there are traffic broadcasts, when your unit powers up, you will see a small green traffic symbol in the upper left corner of the screen. this indicates that it is picking up the signal. If it turns gray, then you do not have a signal in that area. Again, be sure you are in an area that has traffic broadcasts, plug in adapter first, then you should be fine. Again, it is not necessary to enter a code. Good luck and have fun!

I can help you with the phone numbers on your Garmin Nuvi 265WT.

The phone numbers transferred to your Nuvi are only supposed to be available when your phone is paired to your cell phone. Changing the entry on your phone should allow that entry to show up changed the next time it is paired with the Nuvi. Sometimes, a bluetooth mix up causes entries to be duplicated or entries' phone numbers to get repeated.

To correct this, I recommend backing up your favorites, clearing all user data (this hard reset will remove the phonebook info from your nuvi), and then updating your Nuvi' firmware to make sure the nuvi and cell phone bluetooth process runs as smoothly as possible in the future.

Follow these three steps to take to get your Nuvi 265WT running like new:

1. Back up your Favorites.
2. Perform a Hard Reset.
3. Download and then run Garmin 265WT WebUpdater to replace its firmware / system software.

I called Garmin about the same issue. If you will turn it on and are in one of the 50 metro areas covered it will automatically receive trraffic updates. That is exactly what I did and it worked and I got the same message you did. You do NOT have to sign up, get a code, or anything. Just turn it on in one of the areas and watch for the traffic symbol on the uper left hand side.
