the subwoofer power appears to be connected(green light shows) for about 1 to seconds then disappears.

I already posted this in another spot but here it goes: One day the light went out on the subwoofer and never came back on. We have electrical storms from time to time so I figured I blew a fuse. I took off the back plate and tested all 3 fuses and they tested fine. I then read that a bad cable from the center unit to the sub may cause the problem so I ordered a new cable and it still didn't come on. I guess I may have a blown transformer because I don't get 12v DC on the cable from the transformer back to the board (not sure if I tested it right since it has 2 reds 2 blues and a black). Any ideas?

The subwoofer is designed to be "on" at all times. It will detect signal from the cable and should start by itself. So yes, the pin cable must be connected.

Can I and how do I hook a subwoofer to my Sony str-de705 receiver

It depends. You can connect an active (self-powered) sub-woofer to the STR-DE705. You can't connect a passive sub-woofer that needs power from the receiver. If the sub-woofer has its own power cord, then it's an active unit. See https://us.en.kb.sony.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/37001 for more information. You'll also need a RCA subwoofer cable. This is like a RCA audio cable but only has one plug on each end. (Using a regular audio cable may risk a short when the extra plugs hit something.) Many subwoofers will come with the audio cable. If you do need one, they are available at most places that sell cables, including Amazon.com .

Here is an example of an active subwoofer: https://us.en.kb.sony.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/37001 . This is the Yamaha YST-SW012.

I hope this helps.

How to hook up emerson subwoofer sw 03

For powered sub :If your receiver has a sub woofer output on female RCA plug, that is the way to go. If no output you will have to get a speaker line to line output converter to then connect to your subwoofer amp input.

Unpowered sub - just hook up across the speaker terminals for each channel making sure that you hook it up in phase.

My powered subwoofer no longer works through the receiver

if you have your front and centers set to 'small' you want your Bass out to be subwoofer only, and the rca jack labeled 'sub out' is the only place to connect your sub to if you want to control the frequencies with your reciever. I dont know the brand of your sub, or the inputs on the back of it to advise you where to connect, but it sounds like it worked for you at one time, but suddenly it does not

Sub woofer does not come on. we checked for power to the cord. what to do now?

If it's an active subwoofer, it will need power from the wall along with a signal from your amplifier. usually this is done over a cable that looks a bit like coax, with the same plug on each end. Make sure your amp is configured to send a signal to the sub and ensure that whatever you're trying to play (i.e. a movie / console game) outputs signals for subwoofer.

If all of these things do not solve your problem... try turning the subwoofer on? (i jest).

Can u connect another subwoofer to this sub? if so how?

Yes, you can connect another subwoofer too along with this unit, hook RCA pin in this subwoofer coming from amplifier sub out and there is RA jack line-out, anothersubwoofer can be plugged there. It is mentioned in user manual page-7 and previous expert gave you user manual link to download a copy.
Thanks.

Cannot get power to sub woofer...

Maybe you could name the subwoofer model so we know what it needs for input.

And we need to be careful with the indiscriminate use of the word 'power' in audio discussions. There's wall power and there's amplifier (audio) power.

In the case of subwoofers, some are self-powered (AC power cord plugged into the wall and an amplifier built-in; usually receives subwoofer-specific audio program via RCA cables from YOUR source); others are passive (just get audio power from YOUR amplifier.

Subwoofer.......

Please check your model number, I can not find it on the JVC service website.

This is a powered sub-woofer I think. You need to have a thick black cord that connects the sub to the head unit. Then the satellite speakers get connected to the speaker jacks on the sub-woofer box. The sub-woofer should also be plugged into an A/C outlet on the wall.

The speaker outputs are labeled right there where you connect the speaker wires. You should see a red and black connector for each speaker and they are labeled "front right" "front left" "center" "rear right" "rear left".

If you do not have the thick black cord you need to connect the head unit with the sub-woofer, you can not use this system.

If you look at the head unit and give me the model number on it, I may be able to find the part you need. But I must have a good model number to work with, preferably from the head unit.

RCA Sub-Woofer

Did you try making sure the subwoofer is turned on under the set up menu on the Sony Receiver?

Press Set Up, Press the left or right button above the scroll wheel until you get to SW. It should say SW: ON or SW: OFF. If it says SW: OFF, use the Scroll wheel to scroll right until it says SW: ON. Also, make sure you aren't in 2CH mode, try A.F.D or surround sound.
