If you have no image at all, you probably need an inverter.

If you can barely see a faint image, you need a backlight.

Compaq laptop green pink screen pixalted

One of the things is to hook it to another monitor and see if that still happens. If it does not then it is most likely the screen on the laptop. Not to worry though it could be the cable that connects the laptop motherboard to the screen. When you open and close the lid, it flexes the cable and the little wires in can break. The cable is not cheap though. One way to test this is to change how far the lid opens by flexing it open and closed to see if the screen changes. If it does then it is that cable.

Hp pavilion dv7-4165dx black screen

A blacked-out screen doesn't necessarily indicate a broken monitor.
If the computer has run out of charge or is in hibernation or sleep mode,

if the screen is too dark, or if the display cable has come disconnected from the motherboard, the screen may appear black or fail to turn on.

To fix a blacked-out laptop screen, troubleshoot the screen settings, check the LCD connector and see if the computer is awake and receiving power.

Touch the touchpad or move the external mouse to see if the computer is asleep or hibernating. If the computer fails to respond, press "Enter" on the keyboard.

Press the power button if the screen remains black.

Confirm that the power indicator light, found at the front of the computer or above the keyboard, is glowing solid green or blue.

Confirm that the power adapter is plugged into the computer and into a wall outlet. Confirm that battery indicator light is glowing solid green or blue.

Hold down the "Fn" key. Press the up-arrow to see if the screen brightness increases.
Some computers also use the "F6" or "F7" keys to increase screen brightness.

Hold down the power button for 10 seconds to turn off the laptop.
Remove the AC adapter from the computer, close the screen, and then turn the PC over.

Slide the battery latch to eject the battery. Pull the battery out of its compartment.

Turn the computer back over, open the lid, and insert the edge of a flathead screwdriver or other flat, solid object beneath the bezel above the keyboard.

Wedge the edge of the keyboard bezel off of the top cover.
Work your way along the edge of the keyboard bezel to loosen it.
Pull the bezel off the laptop.

Trace the cable coming from the laptop screen to the connector found beneath the bezel. Reconnect the display cable to the motherboard if the cable has come loose from the connector.

Line up the tabs on the bezel with the slots along the top of the keyboard. Insert the right edge of the bezel into the gap above the keyboard, and then push the bezel back in place.

Turn the computer back on. If the laptop screen is still blacked out, connect an external monitor to the video port on the side of the PC to confirm that the video card isn't defective.

If the external monitor works, the LCD screen could be broken.

If the monitor doesn't work, the motherboard or video card might need to be replaced.

Hope this helps

How to fix a black screen on my dell inspiron 6000 laptop, it loads up then turn back black, i close down the laptop top and open it up again it works for a sec. then turns back black, what shall i do?

There is a cable between the system board and the LCD. It may be loose or it may be bad. If you open the screen partially to a 45 degree angle, does it stay on? If it does, then it is the cable.

Here is the service manual for your laptop:

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins6000/en/index.htm

Click on this link or copy and paste the complete link into your browser.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.

Thanks, Joe

When i try an open system restore the window appears blank, an my laptop doesnt no what the internet is when i try an open internet explorer it asks me what program to use, all this started after i ran i...

You might want to print this out:

1) Turn off your laptop.

2) Press the "on" button on your laptop, and *immediately* start tapping on the F8 key on your keyboard. This should bring up a black screen with white text on it.

NOTE: You may get a message saying "keyboard error, press F1 to continue." If this happens, press F1 and then keep tapping on the F8 key.

NOTE: If the Windows screen comes up, turn off the computer and try again until you get to a black screen with different startup choices on it.

3) Once you have reached the startup choices screen, use the arrow keys on your keyboard to highlight "safe mode." Press the Enter key. If you are asked to choose your operating system, just press Enter again.

This will start a lot of text scrolling on your screen. Just be patient. When it stops, you will see a login screen. Log in under your name (sometimes this is "owner").

4) You will now be logged in to you computer in Safe Mode. A message will pop up asking if you want to use Safe Mode or System Restore. Click on System Restore.

5) You should now have the option to undo your last System Restore. Choose this option and follow the instructions on your screen to get back to where you were before you tried to restore your laptop.

If you need further help after that, please reply with the name and model number of your laptop. For example, "Dell Inspiron 530," or "Compaq Presario 3000." Also let me know what version of Windows you are using, for example "XP" or "Vista."

I have an ACER Travelmate 230 notebook. The system is working but the monitor does not display anything. I can use the laptop with an external monitor successfully. Is this the end for my laptop?

So after a power up we can deduct that its not a hard drive problem because you have managed to successfully attach an external LCD screen to the system.

It may not nessacarily be the end , laptops are mobile machines and time to time plugs and sockets don't hold their devices in place and in your case most probably one of the two connectors on your laptops LCD screen.

It could possibly be one of these 3 things

1. The ribbon connector which carry's the video signal to your LCD screen has become dislodged you will need to open up your laptop and check this and make sure its seated in its interface properly. This is usually located in the spine of the laptop

2. The power connector on the LCD screen itself which is a small black 3 pronged plug has become loose also open up your laptop and check this

3. when the computer has had time to boot press the fn + F6 on your keyboard , you may have to press this a few times but this is the manual LCD screen off and on button

Tell me how this goes

Cheers

Got a laptop Aspire 7520, laptop loads starts up fine but the screen has gone black, can hardly see the desktop display. have tried adjusting the brightness of the laptop but still desktop display can not...

To fix this problem it will require you to physically open up your laptop , which will probably void you warranty , so please get this replaced under warranty if possible , if your not worried do the following.

Remove all the screws holding the laptop's shell together and open up behind the laptops screen , there are two connectors here which you will require to check , the power connector which is a small black connector and the more prominent video ribbon connector make sure these two cables are connected properly,

You may discover that you have a faulty LCD screen either get it replaced by a trained technician or do it your self (your halfway there anyway)

You may also find that the cables became dislodged and this fixed your problem.

Though it could also be a software issue probably within the graphics cards application , i see you have checked brightness but have you checked all options to change it ?

This is a hard one

Goodluck

My laptop screen won't come on. I closed the lid for 10 minutes and when i opened it the screen was black.

please try rebooting and see if that corrects the issue

if it does that means that your laptop is going to sleep and isn't waking up

check the setting in the control panal under power and make sure that it is set to wake up again with out a password
