If you have some skills, you can open the camera and cline your zoom lens with toothbrush and compressed air. Try to separate zoom lens from the electric motor. usually is 2 or 3 screws. You will see a lot of sand inside the camera and lens. And next time when you will go to the beach, you will take more care about your camera.
Solution 2, and more easy is to buy another zoom lens from ebay.Or another camera same model with broken LCD or other technical problem than zoom lens.
Had exactly the same problem with my fujifilm j32, after reading a few things on the net and definitely couldn't be bothered to waste money and time sending off a camera that cost a few quid I took matters into my own hands! I turned the camera on and quickly grabbed the lens to stop it retracting again, once it was held out I gave it a good 'wiggle' moving it in all directions fairly firmly! I then pressed the on/off button again to switch it off and then turned it back on and low and behold it turned on and worked perfectly after! Hope this helps others cause it could save you a lot of time and money!
Hi Sandra, Try power reset for your camera. Turn the camera on, and without turning the camera off, open the battery door and take the batteries out. Leave it for a minute or two. This helps camera get reset and helps correct the basic functionality and also zoom error. Hope it helps u otherwise u will have to take it to authorised repair center. Good Luck.
whilst reading out loud instruction to fix the 'zoom error' my wife turned and twisted the zoom lens clockwise and shake th camera gently - all of a certain it worked again as per normal - try it - hope it works for you too!
