The pitch is set by the ptintwheel. To change it install a P/W with a 12 pitch i.e. prestiege elite 12.

IBM Wheelwriters automatically know the pitch by the printwheel that is inserted. If you want 12 pitch, you have to insert a 12 pitch printwheel, same for 10, 15, and PS.

The font size is changed by changing the printwheel. The pitch selection is automatically determined by the pitch on the printwheel. Here is a link to a viewable user's manual. www.lexmark.com/publications/pdfs/2007/typewriters/Wheelwriter-30.pdf

On the Wheelwriter machines, it is the printwheel that determines what pitch you are in. The wheel has holes in it that a part "reads" the holes when the machine is turned on or when the printwheel is changed. You can not manually change pitch.

The WW3 will type whatever printwheel is in the machine. If you want something different you will have to buy another printwheel. It says on the printwheel whether it is a 10 pitch or a 12 pitch.

How can I make print smaller on IBM Wheelwriter 6 series 2?

You will have to purchase a wheel with different font. Is your machine capable of both 10 and 12 pitch? If it is, there will be a lever near the platton to make this change. For more information, ask at the office supply place where you go to get your new wheel.

Mechanical typewriters are not able to use scalable font. Every letter on a typewriter is the same size as every other letter. You can get larger and smaller letters (font) ... but they will occupy exactly the same size space. The only other option, as I say, is the 10 pitch or 12 pitch (how many letters you "pitch" up on the paper per inch). If your machine has this capacity, you can use both pitches.

10 pt printwheel printing 12 pt spacing

Some type styles do have thinner print than others. The pitch is automaticly selected when you change printwheels. You can measure the pitch by printing 12 letter "i" and putting a ruler up to it.
12 spaces per inch is elite and 10 is pica.

Joany, look for a function, usually on the left side of the keyboard on the IBM,that has the markings 10,12 and 15. And if my memory is correct, there will be a series of lamps which light up at the selected pitch. I would look for a key marked "pitch" and press that. Good luck.
