Question about DE-1793 Radar Detector

1 Answer

Broken Cigarette Lighter Splitter / Power Adapter

I have owned a Whistler DE-1793 Radar Detector for about 4 years now. I have had very few problems with it until just recently, when the Cigarette Lighter Splitter / Power Adapter broke when I was trying to install it back into my car. Does anyone know where I can find just that one, single replacement part? Since everything else is fine (especially the radar detector itself), I would hate to have to throw the whole thing out just because I can't get power to it.

Thanks much in advance!

Whistler 1730 keeps blowing fuses. no other problems with cigarette lighter plug

Is the lighter socket fuse blowing or the fuse in the unit's power cord? Have you tried another power cord from a Friends radar detector? If it doesn't blow that power cord's fuse, then your power cord is bad. If it does blow the fuse in the other power cord, there could be something wrong with the unit. Contact Whistler at

I have a Whistler 35 R and the adapter that plugs into the cigarette lighter fell apart. I would like to get a new adapter, but do not know the voltage/amp specs. Can you help with that?

All Whistler's that are not battery powered run on 12 volts with the center tip postive. You can order a power cord by calling 800-531-0004 or whistler's online store at

Stopped working

What stopped working? Does the unit power up? Is there no sound? Will the unit not alarm any more?

If it stopped working, did you check the fuse in the units' power cord or the vehicles lighter socket fuse?

If not sound, does all the other lights and buttons function? if so, is the volume control turned up?

Does not sound alarm till its to late

The lower end Whistler radar detector models do not have particularly good performance against all radar gun frequencies. Whistler's XTR-690, Pro78 and XTR-695 on the other hand do perform very well against all police radar guns. Its basically a matter of you get what you pay for.
