Question about Kenmore Refrigerators

1 Answer

I have an older Kenmore refrigerator it is a Porcelain Plus 20 I believe. A couple weeks ago the ice maker quit working in the freezer. It is not a side by side. The arm is up on the icemaker in the freezer, so in theory it shouldnt be trying to fill the ice cube trays, but i am getting a puddle under my drawers in the bottom of the refrigerator.

Sounds like you have 2 problems the arm being uop turns off the ice maker the water may be due to a clogged drain everytime it defrost the water should rund down the drain to the pan on the bottom and evaperate check the drain first

You need to replace the heating elements and defrost timer relay. Had same thing as you 6 months ago. The lower one is probaly blown but replace all 3 parts or youll continue to have problems.

Water leaking into freezer

It may be the defrost thermostat. This thermostat turns on a heater in the freezer a couple of times a day and melts the ice in the freezer which should go into a tube that leads to a pan underneath the refrigerator, where it sits and evaporates from the heat of the compressor. It could also be the timer which tells the refrigeator to turn off a couple of times a day and tells the defrost thermostat to turn on.

Kenmore cold spot side by side

Compressor may have quit. Have you cleaned the condenser where the heat from the system is transfered to the air? If not clean it out under the front back of the toe plate. this should be cleaned as often as every six months.
