Question about Dell Inspiron 1200 14.1 XGA LCD Display-320-4222 (3204222) CD-ROM Drive

1 Answer

Dark LCD I have a Dell Inspiron 1200 ( 3 years old), and the screen has gone dark, which seems like a simple contrast issue. However, it is not. The computer powers on as usual, but the picture is very dark. I have taken it to a repair shop, but after several tries, they concluded that I should have my mother board changed. Is that the only remedy for this problem? Or should I just invest in an entirely new computer?

  • Hi, you can go into the "Control Panel" and make changes to the Power Saving Options, or Energy Saving. First from the "Start Menu" in the [Start Search] window, type: power, next scroll to find the "Short-cut' listing for {Power Options}, click on it to go to the next window. You'll be able to adjust the "Power Options," (Sleep, "Awake," or Hiberate, if available). "Let me know how things worked out for you by giving a "helpful rating"

Loss of light on screen Dell Inspiron E1705

Looks like the backlighting on the display has failed, sometimes it is just a lose cable, buy most often the LCD needs to be replaced.

to check the cable see the manual at http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins9400/ for how to get to the LCD cables (usually just under the cover that the power button is on)

Dell Inspiron 1200 no POST

There are two memory slots on this model, but there is no "Onboard" memory. Without the memory that you removed, your laptop will not post. It sounds like a dead motherboard issue to me, especially since you have pretty much torn it down to barebones. Rarely, this can also be caused by the processor but it is less likely. Unfortunately, since you cannot keep it running, there isn't much chance of diagnostics. I hope this helped.
