What in the world are you talking about? The issue is not with XP vs Vista but with a Mad Dog burner.

Please read the question carefully before posting an answer.

Cannot get my computer to recognize a dvd burner I just installed

Make sure your jumper settings are correct. If it's your only drive, set it to "Master" if it's a second drive set it to "Slave"

Do you have Windows XP? If so XP does not burn DVD's on its own it requires third party software.
A simple Google search will find free software for you.
I personaly like burn4free it can be found here.

Need driver upgrade for Megastor 7-in-1 16X DVD+-RW for windows 7 Nero OEM Suite 1 isn't compatable with windows 7 either. Need help! thanks

If you had iTunes installed, try uninstalling and restarting your PC, then reinstall iTunes.

If that didn't work, try the following:

You'll have to do all of this manually.

Remove any files that have GEARAspi in the filename. You can find them in the system32, system32/drivers and sysWow64 folders.

Next, delete any registry keys that have GEARAspi in them and the folders names GEARAspi...

Finally, uninstall the device, then "Scan for Hardware Changes" and the device should reinstall correctly.

This has happened on other drives when they've had iTunes installed and this fixed the problem for me. Hope it works for you too.

Finally if none of the above work, try this article.

Mad Dog External DVD Writer

I don't know if I can be of any help here, but I purchased my Mad Dog Multimedia MEGASTOR DVD+/-RW burner a few years ago for my PoweSpec with XP Home Edition. I recently bought a new computer installed with Windows Vista Home Premium (which yes, I actually do love) and my external Mad Dog works perfectly, I didn't even have to update any drivers, it recognizes the drive everytime I plug it in (via USB). I don't need it anymore, but it's actually a better burner than the one that came with my system, which I bought new in March, although it's now discontinued. Do you have the disk for it? If so, have you tried running the disk again? What OS and processor do you have? In the event that it might be a matter of obtaining the proper driver for it to work for you, I also am a member of a great and extremely reliable site for free driver downloads. Free membership is limited to a few downloads within a certain period of time, and then you have to wait 24 hours, but other than that there is no limit so that's what I do. Just for the record, there was a period where my old XP was out of commission and I had to resort to my very old HP Pavillion that was about 10 years old, came with Windows 98SE(when that OS was brand new) and all I needed to do to make Win98 recognize the drive was download a driver and it worked just fine. LOL, that has a processor that runs at 600 megahertz, so you can imagine if my Mad Dog worked on systems like that, XP Home and now Vista Home Premium without a hitch, I was quite impressed with their products.

MacBook and Mad Dog Multimedia Compatible?

According to (check the requirements tab, note that it doesn't work on firefox due to bad coding), it only supports Windows 2000 and Windows XP (even though it doesn't say so, it's likely it's also supported by Windows 98 and Vista) but unless someone made drivers for mac os x, it doesn't look like it'll work.
