I need RAM for an older Sony PCV computer. The model number on the computer states it's a PCV-470ODS. But NewEgg lists no such computer. They DO list a PCV-407. Are they the same? And what's the most...

My suggestion would be to go to and run their System Scan.

It works very well, and will tell you what kind it takes, how much you have now, and how much it will hold.

Thanks for using Fixya.

I have a SONY PCV-RX660. I had the computer disconnected from all power sources for an extended period of time. Tried to start it up yesterday and the computer will not problems with speakers...

Usually there is a switch on the back of the power supply that turns the supply on or off. Make sure it is turned on. Try using a different 3-prong cord between computer and outlet.

Computer turns on, but does not boot to XP

Generally, fans are controlled by heat readings...something to check is the operating temperature that is shown in your BIOS when you boot up...(access your BIOS by tapping on the delete key, or F2 key while booting)..if it goes over 70C real quick then there is a CPU heat dissipation problem, which would cause the fan to run like this i think that it is more of an issue that your CPU died...has your machine taken any kind of hit or fall that might have loosened things?...or perhaps the heat sink compound between the heatsink and CPU failed.....
but it also could be a dead MB

Computer wont start

hi, have you tried changing the fuse in the mains plug and checked all the leads are in the back of the computer properly.
Once this is done then try switching it back on check for the fan starting up if you have changed the fuse and still here nothing then the chances are the power pack has blown.
These can be brought and are easy to replace as this is the most likely cause of the problem.
Also if you take the case off before you switch it on then look on the board and see if their are any led lights lit up their should be a couple for the modem etc if not the the power pack has blown and will need replacing these can be brought for next to nothing from any computer repair shop.

As for everything that is saved and all the files you need these will be saved onto the hard drive which can be removed and put into another computer but replacing the power pack will solve your problem.
Make sure you change the fuse in the plug as it sounds like a power surge has tripped your computer out so unless its blown the fuse in the plug then you will need to replace the power pack which would be the cheapest option.
But if you didnt want tto do this then remove the hard drive as this has all your files and all your saved files on it then this can be easily put into another computer giving you acess to all your files.
This is also easy to do and something you can do yourself as its only two block connectors that go into the back of the hard drive you remove these then remove the 2 or 4 screws running along side the hard drive then put this into another computer remove the hard drive your not using and put yours in place then it will be exactly how your own computer was in the first place.

Let me know if you have any problems and ill be glad to assist you further ok
