I can't put in a new blade in my Dewalt jig saw DW 993. It has a turn knob which will not open or close the saw slot. How many times must I turn the knob to open or close and do I have to lpull it out to turn?

To change the regular blade on the DW321 type 1, unplug the power tool. To remove the blade, pull the knob on the top of the jigsaw up about 1/4". Rotate the knob counterclockwise until the clamp opens. Do not force the knob after it stops. Insert the blade making sure that the back edge of the blade fits into the support roller. Rotate the knob clockwise until it clicks and then push it down.
Blade catch wears out too fast
I loved this tool when it was working but after not that much use the teeth that hold the blade under pressure no longer hold hard enough to prevent the blade from coming out. The mechanism that holds the blade has no catch hole, it uses a few serated teeth to pressure hold the blade in place. Unfortunately, once the pressure starts to lessen you can't tighten it down...
Detail 201 spindle assy , [114 no longer available ] part 118 this parts in priority but 114 is to important to have only the possibility to have only a new spindle assy working in an old part together is not to garantee for a long life.
Turn the
handle/knob counterclockwise 5-7 full turns until blade chuck is
completely open, keep the black knob pulled up as you turn it.
Insert “T” shank or universal jigsaw blades
into the chuck making certain that the back edge of the blade fits into
the support roller. Please note that when using “T” shank blades, insert
the blade to the shoulder of the shank.
With the knob/handle still in the up position,
turn the handle/knob clockwise until the knob starts to ratchet.
Push the handle/knob down. The blade is
completely installed at this point.
There is a lever on the handle, you have to pull it up and rotate it counter clockwise about 3 times (shouldn't take any more than that. The blade will be loose now,put in the new blade and turn the back lever clockwise until it clicks. The blade should be tight, push the lever down and move it into the slot in the handle.
