Hi I was also wondering up to what size needles does it take ? Something bigger than a 16 for sewing canvas etc would be useful, but as I dont have a manual and have never used a machine before it is hard to find info on this. Also stich length does this pose a problem when sewing canvas as it only goes up to a 4 which is small. Thankyou

I have this machine, recently purchased, and I have run #'s 16 and 18 needles , and have sewn leather and vinyl. It will sew canvas well, but this machine has a short stitch length, so, if you want anything larger than a #4 stitch, this isn't the machine for you.

SOURCE: juki ddl-227 industrial machine

Before all else. Turn off machine!
(1) break screws on the hook loose.
(2) tighten one back up very skightly, one you can reach when the needle bar is at its lowest position.
(3) lower needle bar to its lowest position.
(4) loosen the screw just tightened.
(5) position the tip of the hook behind the needle hole. the tip should be as close to the needle hole as possible without actually touching the needle
(6) tighten screws
(7) slowly hand turn the machine (depress the foot pedal to disengage clutch brake on motor) several revolutions to make sure the needle doesn't hit anything on the hook.
(8) if it passes this test, try on a scrap of fabric

3.wrong size needle for the fabric
4.the wrong foot is attached
5.the needle clamp screw is loose
6. Top tension is too tight
7. Machine could be out of time

The needle thread breaks

1. the needle thread is not threaded properly

2. The needle thread tension is to tight

3. The needle is bent or blunt

4. The needle is incorrectly inserted

5. The needle thread & the bobbin thread are not set under the presser foot when starting to sew

6. the threads were not drawn to the rear after sewing

7. The thread is either to heavy or to fine for the needle

How do i stop juki ddl from top skipping stitches?

Hi. Skipped stitches are usually caused by a mismatch in your thread and needle. Wrong thread type, wrong needle size, or even old thread can cause skipped stitches. If all else fails, change the needle. If that doesn't work, clean the machine. Sometimes just getting rid of all the lint and giving her a good oiling does a world of good.

Let me know if this works.

My thread is breaking when I'm sewing on my Juki DDL 555

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE RIGHT NEEDLE FOR THE THREAD YOU ARE USING, AND THAT THE SAME THREAD IS ALSO IN THE BOBBIN. CHECK UPPER TENSION, BY PULLING SLIGHTLY, IF IT'S TIGHT, LOOSEN THE UPPER TENSION.YOUR THREAD MAY BE THE WRONG SIZE OR TYPE FOR THE SPEED YOUR SEWING., and the needle your are using( sorry about the caps lock)
