Question about Computers & Internet

Monitor has gone completely black

My monitor one day grew dim and black. The next day it was completely black by best guess is that the backlight has gone out because the display is fine on an external monitor. So am I right? and if so, about how much will it cost me to repair?? Because I really don't want to get another notebook because this one is super fast(3.00 GHz!!!!) but it could use more RAM.

Hi

Normally notebooks last abt 3 years (3.0 GHz is abt 3 years, sorry) and then you will have to upgrade or change. In this case I suggest you get the "monitor" changed to a used one (I think u can find it in ebay) or buy a new one. The approx cost is USD 300.00 depending on the make of your notebook. U could also get it repaired if u can find a technician.

Black display

You say black display. Not sure what you mean. Either the monitor is working or it is not. If you see nothing on the monitor and the power light is yellow, then it is not getting a signal.
If the power light is green and you see nothing, look really closely. You might even shine a flashlight at the monitor to see if there is actually a dim display. If so, the backlight has gone out and needs to be replaced.
I'm assuming that you have tried to brighten the display with the monitor controls.

My monitor on my Dell laptop went completely black while I was on it. I have tried turning it off and back on, and the monitor is not working at all

You may have a defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashes on and off or displays reddish pink hue. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickers on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replace the CCFL lamp.
To determine if the video card or the LCD is faulty, connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight. It could be a faulty inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out; usually the CCFL lamp fails before the inverter.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

My monitor shut off and wont come back on

Do you have a yellow light on it?
Is this a monitor that has a power adapter to run it? If so, check the voltage coming to the monitor. If the voltage is low or there is no power, then you have found the problem.
If the voltage is correct and if you can get video by attaching a different monitor, then your monitor is bad.

Black screen battery charged new ac cord turns on fan is on nothing on screen wont go on to hard disk i guess

Your LCD screen is probably bad.. Can you see anything? It may be very very very dim. If it is very dim(use a flashlite to see if anything comes up), if you can see something but is very very dim then it is the backlight to your LCD screen and you need a new screen

Try connecting your PC to an external monitor.. then try getting it to work..

If it works on an external monitor then it is your LCD screen.
If it fails, then it is your video card or motherboard.
