Question about KitchenAid Dishwashers

1 Answer

1987 In-Sink-Erator Classic Supreme (Just like KitchenAid from that era) - leaked Jet Dry after it was filled. Haven't taken door apart yet to figure out what is wrong. Also, after washing/rinse/dry is complete, dishes have light coating of white powder-like film that wipes off. What could be the cause(s) of these issues?

You have to replace the rinse aid compartment if not the whole inside door shell ,the reason for the coating is because your not using rinse aid.If you are using the same soap than you need to replace the leaking dispensor.

If unit is leaking, then replace with new disposal.
Waste King disposals have longer warranty, but local hardware sells Insinkerator/Badger for less.

I have the Badger 5 in sink erator under sink food disposer and it is leaking from a small on the bottom of the unit. How can I repair the unit?

Disposal is rusted out and needs to be replaced.
If you plug the hole, the motor compartment will fill with water and short out the electric.

HOW TO FIX MY LEAKY SINK STRAINER THATS CONNECTED TO A BADGER 5 1/2 HP IN-SINK-ERATOR THANKS FOR ANY HELP REALLY APPRECIATED

You have to take it apart and re-apply plumber's putty ... some specialize sink materials require different type of sealer, but stainless and porcelain use regular plumbers putty from hardware or home center.

In sink erator badger5 is leaking from the bottom

If the seals dry out the disposal will leak. This is caused usually from non-use of the sink as if the disposal sits dry for an extended period of time without water going through the disposal. You can buy new seals and rebuild it, however the time and parts don't warrant unless you want to do it yourself. if it is more than 2 years old or you do not know how old it is you are better off replacing the device.

Dripping garbage disposal. looks to be dripping from aroud joint where there may b a gasket?

Your leak is due to a break in the plumbers putty at that location. It will have to be taken apart so the old putty can be removed and new plumbers putty can be put in.

In Sink Erator Classic Supreme with sensor problem

I would assume that in the last year you've either fixed the washer or have gotten a new one. If your curious, this is probably the solution. There's a plastic piece that pushed a button when you open the latch and resets the washer. The piece is probably broken. If you remove the screws on the top of the door, you can reach in and manually push the button. You can also tape some metal into the end of the plastic piece so it will still push the button. A flattened bottle cap will work.

KitchenAid Dishwasher fill up with water after use

Is the water clean water or dirty water? This may sound like an ignorant question, but it can make a difference. If the water is clean water, it sounds like you could have a bad fill valve. If the dishwasher is filling with water when it is not running, chances are the fill valve is leaking. The valve is closed when the float switch senses the tub filling to a certain level. The valve is also closed when not energized by the control board during drain, drying and off cycles. However, if the valve diaphragm is not seating properly when closed, it will continue to leak by. That's probably why you don't notice it while is running and it has a chance to fill during the night when not in use. Here's what to look for: With the dishwasher off, take a towel and dry the tub as much as possible. Now, locate the fill port where the water comes in (usually on the left hand side of the tub). Watch this fill port closely for several minutes to see if water is running in. It could be as minute as a trickle or drip. If any water is coming in at all, the fill valve should be replaced. Now, another problem that can occur is when you notice dirty water staying in the tub or overflowing. This is usually caused by a bad check valve in the drain pump that's allowing water to leak back from the sink into the tub. Or, you do not have a high loop in the drain line. Here's what to look for: Check to make sure the drain line has a high loop as it leaves the dishwasher and before it gets to the drain pipe at the sink. That is, make sure the drain hose is looped above the trap in the sink and not laying under the sink somewhere. You can also try filling the sink with water and open the dishwasher door. Drain the sink to see if anything is getting fed back into dishwasher. If you see water starting to fill in the tub, chances are you could have a bad check valve. Some dishwashers have a check valve in the drain pump, while other models have the check valve located in the drain hose itself. Some don't have one at all. That's why the positioning of the drain hose can be important. Good luck to you and I hope this may help. If you determine a cause, post back with comments if you need advice on how to replace anything.
