Question about Kenmore 73502 / 73504 / 73509 Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

1 Answer

Kenmore fridge I have a Kenmore model 596.76512500. It's an 05' freezer on bottom with side by side top doors. The freezer was registering -1 degrees but my fridge was at 66. I turned on the rapid cool because I thought the door may have been left open. No luck I came back several hours later and the temp was warmer. I just sucked out a bunch of dust off the coils and compressor and it is disconnected. No ice build up in the freezer at all.

I am having the same problem...the freezer seems to be working fine, however the refrigerator has stopped working, temperature is 78 degrees. Any reasons/solutions to this problem?

I would suggest if you can take a look at the damper control at the refrigerator side. it is located at the middle. it regulates the air coming from the freezer section and dependent on the signal coming from the thermistor... so that is the next thing to check. if the thermistor in the refrigerator side is working fine.

i hope i was able to help...

Recommended temp settings for freezer and fridge

The ideal freezer temperature is 0 to 5 degrees and the fridge section from 36 to 40 degrees. However, you will get more accurate responses if you leave the model number of your exact unit.

My Kenmore freezer, model #253.9280212 runs but will not cool below 40 degrees. It runs all the time but I do not hear anything cut on and off. The freezer is 10 years old but looks brand new.

The first thing to check is door gasket< bad corners, gap in side, bottom or top. Close door on a dollar bill and try to slide it top to bottom side to side and if it slides fairly easy then seal is not doing good. If you find dirty area clean it off along with the cabinet side as well.If you find the side is leaking then heat gasket with hair dryer and apply vasoline to gasket to help it move freely. If you find tear or hole then replace it.

Freezer works but refrigerator is staying at 50 degrees

Is this a French door unit? Do you see excessive build up of frost in the freezer on the back panel? Is that evaporator fan motor running? That is what circulates the air from the freezer to the refrigerator.

Kenmore fridge and freezer not cooling

Check to see if there is any ice built up on the back wall of the freezer. If so thaw the ice and take the back wall out of the freezer. next check to see if the fan is running in the freezer (evaporator fan) This fan is what circulates the air from the freezer to the fridge. If it does run then you have a defrost problem (if ice is on the coils and back wall). Then replace defrost timer, heater, and thermostat.

Water gushed out freezer door, possible solenoid problem?

The drain is clogged. The drain is usually located inside the freezer on the bottom shelf to the rear. Use a meat baster and a solution of 1 tsp. baking soda and 2 cups of hot water-not boiling to unclog the drain. You probably also have about 1/2 inch of ice build-up on the bottom shelf. This will have to be removed first.

Fridge not working

I've had this happen to my Kenmore 73503 several times. The 1st time took me a few hours to figure out what the problem was.

Basically the fridge is cooled from the freezer, so when you say your freezer is -2 degrees, it's a big tip off to the problem.

If you look very close in the freezer compartment at the back, you'll notice an opening with a little door at the top of the freezer compartment. This opening extends up the inside of the back of the fridge to the top of the fridge area via a square plastic tube.

Basically what happens in my fridge is the family loads the freezer to high especially at the top/back. This restricts or closes off the opening for the cold air to the fridge portion of the appliance ....resulting in a warm fridge, but cold freezer. Just remove the articles at the back of the freezer to correct problem. (It will take a few hours for the cold air to cool the fridge down)

Note: the temperature control unit in the fridge area controls the little door at the top of the freezer compartment, so if you haven't blocked off the opening, the next place to look would be either at the mechanical parts of the little door or the temperature control unit itself in the fridge
