Question about Acer TravelMate 4230-6499 Notebook

1 Answer

Touchpad isn't working

I started up my laptop the other afternoon and I am not able to utilize my touchpad nor the buttons around it. I have to plug in an external USB mouse in order for it to work at all.

How can I get it to work once again? I have reinstalled the driver but that didn't work. In addition, I rolled back the computer a few days via system restore.

Any suggestions?

Touchpad problem

I am going to assume the touchpad doesn't work, since you didn't elaborate much in your description. If it isn't doing anything, you need to reinstall the drivers for the touchpad. If you have an external mouse laying around, use it to go to the acer site and redownload the touchpad software and follow the instructions to install it. The next time you boot your computer, it will work.

  • First purchase/get a usb mouse and plug it in. It may take a few minutes for it to start working. It will have to install the driver first.
  • This will allow you to get around in windows.
  • Now open your device manager
Windows xp – Start button>run> type devmgmt.msc
Vista/Windows 7 – start button> in the search box type devmgmt.msc
  • Look for a ! ony any device and right click, select update driver
  • If you do not see a ! on any device, your touchpad may simply be bad and need replaced.
  • In ebay search for; manufacturer, model, touchpad
replacement of the touchpad is a whole different set of instructions.

Touchpad not funjctioning on Toshiba Satellite L40/45 laptop

You might have inadvertedly disabled the touchpad.

1. Press Fn + F9 to enable the touchpad.
This key combination acts as a switch, enabling or disabling the touchpad: press once to enable (if it is disabled), then press again to disable.

2. If the touchpad still doesn't respond, check the settings in the mouse control utility.
Click on the touchpad icon on the right side of the task bar if you see one or click Start button/Settings/Control Panel, select the Mouse icon and Press Enter.
Change the settings if necessary.

The touch pad has suddenly stopped working on my laptop so that I can not move the cursor around the screen. Have tried turing laptop on and off again.

There is probably some type of touchpad disable button on your laptop. You didn't mention the make or model of the laptop, but HP's for example, have a small button above the touchpad with a blue light. If the light is off, the touchpad is disabled.

Look around on the laptop and there is probably just a button that needs to be pressed to enable the touchpad

Touchpad not working

First check: Control Panel -> Mouse -> TouchPad On/Off

Second check for a button near the mouse pad, often there are buttons that will enable/disable the touchpad

Thrid use the shortcut key FN+F9(or what ever F key that is used by your laptop) to disable/enable the TouchPad.

Fourth try this software: http://www.kingzm.com/eng/files/download/MouseManager.zip

- Select Start, Settings, Control panel.
- Open System, click on Hardware, and Device Manager.
- Expand "Mice and other pointing devices", and double click on the entry below, that may be called "HID-Compliant mouse", or "Alps Pointing Device".
- Under "Device usage", choose "Do not use this device in the current hardware profile (disable)", and click OK.
