Weird sound coming from my speakers

Hi, I have a Toshiba Satellite A10-S167, and it's about five years old. In the past month or so, it has started emitting a LOUD tone (like a high C) from the speakers, even if I put i on mute. It would go away if I clicked on an application, then return, then go, and so on. Restarting it solved the problem a few times, and then it went away. Now, several weeks later, it has started up again, and it won't go away. I have tried all the speaker settings to no avail. Does this sound familiar to anybody?

Such a Sound appears from either of the Speaker & CD/DVD DRIVE. You should contact Service Point if it appears to arise from SPEAKERS.

Installed new WD HDD (160Gb) into Toshiba Satellite A10-S167. Entered BIOS edit, but can't get laptop to recognize the new HDD (which replaced a smaller, failed HDD)

Shouldn't have any problems on the A10 series working with a 160GB drive, so long as it's an ATA/IDE type with a 44-pin connector. If it's not recognizing the drive, could it be that the pins were not precisely lined-up with the IDE connector? I'd remove the drive, make sure the pins are still all straight, reinsert it into the HDD compartment and see if it makes a difference.

My Toshiba satellite A10 cooling fan is not rotating . Is my cooling fan broken or electricity problem? What should i do to check it?

Chances are that if the computer runs but the fan doesn't spin, the motor to the fan is burned out and the fan needs to be replaced. If the computer doesn't run fine, then many other things could be wrong. Of course, the fan may just be disconnected, which is unlikely. Hope this helps

Not able to hear sound from laptop.I am not able to see volume control.

May be you should install driver software for your sound card. If it is installed just go to Control panel > click speech and audio devices > Click the "Place volume icon on the taskbar" option. if it is muted unmute it. This should solve your problem.
