Question about Panasonic DMR-ES46VS DVD Recorder/VCR

1 Answer

No read on all DVDs inserted

Display shows the disc icon even when the tray is empty. When a DVD of any type is inserted, display says 'read' for a while, and then always ends up saying 'no read'.

When disc inserted, does not spin. Can hear reader head go back and forth. Display shows "read". After a few seconds display shows "no read". Disc indicator shows disc symbol on display when no dics is present. Also tries to read ( can hear head searching ) when closed with no disc inserted.

Tried the lens cleaning, no cure.

Simple, lens have dirt or oil residue so just pop down to your nearest **** smith or radio shack & purchase appropriate cleaner.. test it when you get home & sure enough lens will be able to properly read discs again!!

The display says, "insert disc",

Thank you for posting to Fixya.com and it is my pleasure to guide you.

1. The disc may be turned over. Insert the disc with the playback side facing down.

2. The disc may be dirty. Wipe it with the correct type rag.

Since you stated the display is showing then I take it the player is on and the chord is plugged in.

3. Is the disc completely centered in the tray? I have done that before.

4. Have you run the self-diagnosis function? If the Error code 'AACS ERR' shows then it is an "AACS read failure". Remove the protected disc. Then turn the unit off and wait a minute or two and back on.

Good luck and please post back that you are successful and give thumbs up if my solution has worked for you. If I can be more helpful just reply.

Portable dvd player when you put disc in machine it comes up with wrong disc display on screen is it the settings

It would more likely be the types of discs used. They are either of a region code not compatible with the player, contain foreign/unknown data, or they are unsupported formats. For example, if the player supports DVD-R playback, and you put a DVD-RW in, the player will generate 'wrong disc' message if the player cannot recognise the disc or the contents on it.

The disc formats/types that can be played should be outlined either on the unit itself or in the instruction manual (if you still have it). If the player shows that message even with genuine shop-bought DVDs then there is a defect within the unit, workshop attention may be required to fix it, but it could be costly.

'WRONG DISC' usually means the disc inserted is of a different region code to the player, or the wrong format (DVD-RW instead of DVD-R as exampled above). Try using different discs before going any further.

Had one for years but now it does not even want to spin a disc the disc loads ok but jirks not spins and then the display says :-NG DISC?

This will require a good clean on the inside, POWER OFF then remove the cover clean the plastic rack with rubbing alcohol and cotton bud.

If the DVD won't spin due to trapping inside the tray you will never be able to read the DVD check to see if the tray will insert and eject usinf the button,

NOTE : never push the tray to close this can cause the tray to jump its guide dogs leg which is used to lift he head to the DVD after it has been inserted.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. When a Panasonic is giving "no read" and there are loud "clunking" or "chugging" noises this usually indicates that the lens is dirty or has failed. Other problems may include a failing or failed Digital PCB or some problem with the ribbon cables from the DVD Drive to the Digital PCB (on 2006 models such as the DMR-EZ models there is some problem with the ribbon cables to the DVD Drive on-board controller board.
Please check this picture for ribbon cable connections--

ekimt,

Yes, it would not recognize any type of disc. The disc icon was always present on the display even though no disc was inserted. Also, mine went out while recording from HDD to DVD. Panasonic had mine repaired in two business days and it' s working great.
