1980 Honda GL 1100 Gold Wing Logo
Posted on Sep 21, 2010

I have a 1980 gl 1100 goldwing. Up till recently been averaging about 45 mpg or so now it has dropped to about 15 mph. Carbs are sync. and clean. Fuel pump and filter in good working order. Wondering if the valve springs could be the problem and if so how do I adjust them.

SOURCE: I just bought an old 1983 1100 GL Goldwing. Can

There is a sight window on the right side of the engine by the brake pedal. It may look brown or black. There is a screw in the window that operates a wiper inside the window. Once the window is clean, you should see an upper and lower level mark. You might want to consider purchasing a dip stick kit from J.C. Whitney. They are available for about $25.
Be sure to put the bike on center stand for oil check.

SOURCE: 82 aspencade gl 1100 carbs keep flooding?

It sounds to me you may have a vacum issue with your tank that is causing to much fuel to get deliverd to the carbs, try checking all the hoses on the tank to me sure they are in the correct place. If so then check the patcock to be sure that it is not allowing to much fuel through.

SOURCE: brushes in starter

Yes. It can be done. The starter motor is located outside the engine block so it should be easy to take it out. from there, you may disassemble the starter motor and replace the carbon brush as you wish.

SOURCE: 1982 Goldwing GL 1100 Fuel leak

Hi,
There are 3 supply tubes that run between the carbs. Each one of them has an o-ring at each end. Those can easily be a source of leakage.
There is another cause for leakage, and that is the possibility of one or more floats being set too high which allows excessive fuel into the system. A quick check for that is to open the oil fill plug to see if you can smell gas. If you do, fuel is leaking into the cylinders.
If you need any help with float setting, let me know.
Hope this helps

SOURCE: Owners Manual for 1982 Honda 1100 Goldwing Interstate

From Amazon.com, you can order a Clymer or Haynes service/repair manual for your bike. Or
you can try e-bay, sometimes you can find factory manuals up for bid. You may even be able to
order one through a Honda dealer if is still available, but it may be pricey.

My 83 GL1100 goldwing will not idle i have good firing at all cylinders but sitting on the bike the 2 left side exhaust pipes have good heat out exhaust while the 2 right are just warm, are there adjustment...

first try cleaning the carbs, new spark plugs and adjust valve clearances, new oil and clean air filter, before any screw adjustments, which will need some vacumn gauges attached to set the carb sync
