Hi there- I finally got the convergenc ic's changed out, however one of the smaller resistors looks as though it is burnt. how do I know what size I need to replace? Ps- I havent put back together so still not sure if fixed. Thanks for all your help!! Marieke

  • macshoney Jun 13, 2008

Wow! Thanks for being superfast!! The number is RK42, it isn't toning out, while most all the others are- however not sure if has to be replaced or since we havn't put back together aren't sure that it wouldn't work with it just the way it is- what would you suggest?? thanks so much!! Marieke

  • macshoney Jun 13, 2008

Hi there- I found a stamp that says DP14G/26 does that mean its a 3.3 OHM 1 watt resistor? The one in question is 2nd over from the left- Thanks a million, Marieke

  • macshoney Jun 14, 2008

Hi there, replaced IC's and both 3.3 ohm resistors. Picture is better than before however still have pinkish and green shadows. I tried magic focus and resetting using small button inside front left and cannot get the grid to line up. along the top of grid and bottom its bowed out, and red and green do not align- any help?? Thanks again, Marieke

  • macshoney Jun 15, 2008

After all replacemenrts, and picture off just a bit, I had a problem with the instructions for getting to the grid to align the red, blue and green in the diagostic mode. I kept searching the site and found someone else who could not get the dotted lines to move left or right, or up or down. He said he pressed tv-0-1 on remote first so I tried that, and it worked and allowed me to adjust grid. I saved all info to Rom and followed the directions to save magic focus, and the picture is PERFECT!! Thanks FIXYA****

I have a Hitachi RPTV model # 53UWX10B. Recently, I turned on the TV and had a blue and yellow shadow on the screen. Very noticable when there's writing on the screen. Also, the picture seems to bow towards the top left of the screen. I tried the Magic Focus from the remote and the button on the TV itself, but did not correct the problem. I don't have a service manual, so, I don't know how to get the grid to appear on screen to line up the red, green, and blue. Should I go ahead and order a service manual, or do I need to replace these chips and resistors that macshoney replaced? Would the service manual be helpful in any way? I have the owners manual, but it tells you nothing about repairs. I don't want to spend $400 for a repair, I'd just as soon get a new LCD flat panel. This problem is very, very similar to what macshoney described.

You need to replace the convergence ICs. If you can verify the model number of your set I will post the IC numbers you need and post a link where you can get replacement ics with instalation instructions so you can do the repar yourself and save about 400 dollars

Your model uses two Convergence ICs they will both need to be replaced they are STK392-110 you can get new replacements at the following link and they provide free instalation instructions with pictures so you can do the repair yourself which requires basic soldering ability.

    Heres the link.

i will have to have the board location number for the resistor such as R321 then I can look up the information for you.

Hitachi used two different resistors for RK42v depending on which chassis you have It should be marked on the rear tag A DP17 used a 2.2 ohm 1 watt metal oxide and the DP14G used a 3.3 ohm 1 watt metal oxide resistor. If youre not able to determine the chassis number let me know the color banding on the resistor and I can identify it by the colors.

RED , RED, GOLD and GOLD would be 2.2 ohm 1 watt 5% tolerance metal oxide resistor. If it were brown , brown, gold gold it would be a 3.3 ohm 1 watt resistor

If its a DP14G its a 3.3 ohm. Often the brown color bands can look red or maroon. But the DP14G uses 3.3 ohm for that resistor there should be numerous resistors identical to that one where you can compare color bands if you need to , but its a 3.3 ohm 1 watt metal oxide 5% tolerance resistor

i would check the rest of the 3.3 ohm resistors as its nit un common for quite a few to be open and they wont always show any sign of being burnt.

Last night, while watching the plasma tv, the screen suddenly went completely black. I turned it off, and when i tried to turn it back on... nothing. No sound or picture now at all. The power light cycles,...

Very common issue with Plasma TV's. Unfortunately there's no common fix, or easy fix either. The symptoms you described could be caused by a bad power supply board (not likely), a bad video controller (maybe), or bad X, Y, and/or Z sustain boards (most likely).

If you're handy with a screw driver, you can take the back off the TV and have a look around. Make sure you unplug it from the wall and maybe even wait for an hour or so before opening it up. This will allow it to discharge any stored electricity, though it's not a guaranteed safety net. Work as though anything you touch might shock the sh*t out of you. Because it might.

What you're looking for is signs of a failed component. Capacitors will often bulge on top when they go bad. IC's sometimes will crack, bubble, warp, or burn. Sometimes you can see that a general area of the circuit board appears darker, and often this will be where something has broken down.

Should you see anything that just doesn't look right, and you're pretty sure that it's bad, you can look for that board part number online and sometimes find a really fair price. From there it's all plug and play. A couple screws, a couple wire connectors, a trip to the hospital because you touched a charged cap, and that's it! Voila! Your TV will be up and running again.

TV wont turn on, makes buzzing noise and shuts off

I have two RCA HD52W59 TV's. I have had one for 3 years and one 4 years. The one I have had for 4 years is giving me the problem. Last week the tv turned off while watching it. It wouldnt come right back on. 10 minutes later we tried and it worked fine. the other night the kids were watching and it turned off and smelled like something burning. I tried turning it right back on and got no power at all. I tried to turn it on two days later and it made a buzzing noise and the green light went out. Never did get a picture, no powering up on the screen. Any ideas? Don't want to spend alot of money. Really loved the TV hope it isnt junk now. Better yet I hope the same thing doesnt happen to the other one I have.
