Amana side by side refrigerator

My refrigerator keeps popping the reset on the outlet and shutting off. When I try to reset the outlet, sometimes the light comes on but other times the outlet just pops again. I discovered that if I press the button on the outside of a box under the refergerator that if the light is on, the compressor starts. Also, if I press it at the same time as the breaker, it clicks and the breaker resets and the refer starts. I think the compressor switch is the problem but dont know for sure that is what I am monkeying with.

If the unit is on a ground fault outlet move it to a different outlet or change that one out. A refrigerator or freezer is not reccommended to be on a GFI curcuit. Your hot compressor start can be close to 20 amps. That will trip any GFI it would be hooked up to.

Noise after the motor starts

Is this a clicking or a knock/pop sound? The knock knock sound can sometimes be helped a little bit by tilting the refrigerant filter drier (located in the compressor compartment) to a horizontal position. Ask your technician to do this for you.

Normally if the fridge is tripping the circuit breaker, it is due to a short caused by the defrost element.

However, the second problem could be caused by a faulty timer.

Really loud humming noise and freezer is defrosting/refreezing

Connect only to an outlet, do not use an extension cord. If you really must use an extension, make sure it is capable of handling the load. Should be a 16ga minimum, 14ga preferred and not exceed 25 feet. If you are having this issue while plugged directly into an outlet, perhaps the circuit is weak, and you should try another outlet.

Other possibilities include: a short-cycling thermostat. This is when the thermostat tries to kick the compressor back on too soon after the last running. OR Your compressor is on the way out. Sometimes the installation of a "Hard Start Kit" will aid a failing or stubborn compressor. If you've eliminated all else, consult an appliance servicer to buy the hard start kit. They typically are a universal fit, and come with instructions.

Amana Side by Side Refrigerator

Most manufactures suggest NOT to run an appliance on a ground fault breaker. Try another outlet with out the ground fault. If it runs ok, then ok. If not there could be a problem with the starting relay on the compressor or it could be the compressor drawing too much current on start up. IF that is the case then you will need a compressor.

Fridge is popping my GFI switch

refrigerators are not supposed to be plugged into gfi outlets as they can operate normally and still trip the gfi protector. try plugging the unit into an unprotected outlet and it should work fine. incidentally you'll probably have to replace the gfi outlet as it has probably weakend from being used on the refrig.
