Faxing problem with HP Office Jet 7130 all-in-one

I can't seem to successfully fax anymore than 1-2 pages at a time before the device prints me a failed fax report claiming "a communication error has occurred" Error 344 and 345 are popular ones it lists. I know the receiving fax machine works fine, because I can get a couple of pages to transmit successfully before the error appears. Is there a page memory buffer that gets too full? How do I increase it?

The errors as stated by HP mean that

The remote machine has failed to respond to a fax command from the local machine because the connection was interrupted. These errors can occur if the phone lines in the area are old or if noise is present (static on the phone line). Other reasons could be power outages and other power-related problems.
HP recommends

Check the following items:

  • Make sure that the phone cord is plugged directly from the wall jack into the back port of the fax machine that is marked "Line" or "To Wall Jack", or that has a wall-jack symbol.
  • Verify that the line interface unit (LIU) (the box that the phone cord plugs into) is seated fully into the back of the fax.
  • Remove any other device from the line such as splitters, credit card machines, or telephone answering machines, and retry the fax communication.
  • Try sending and receiving faxes on a different fax line.
  • Try using a different telephone cord.
  • Have the phone company test your line for static or noise problems.
  • Disable Error Correction Mode (ECM) if the same error occurs repeatedly.
Please let me know if you have any questions and I would be glad to help you out. thanks

    *Try to verify this by sending the same fax to other fax machines. If
    these transmissions are successful, then notify the owner/user of the
    remote machine to make them aware of the issue.

    *If the fax fails when sending to other machines, then turn the unit off for ten seconds, turn back on and try sending again.

HP6110 All in one

When the HP Office jet series all-in-one front panel screen displays Memory Full, the HP Office jet all-in-one is not able to send, receive or forward faxes. Copying will also not work. WORKAROUND: Though the memory buffer should clear itself automatically after proceeding with the next task, like receiving a fax or starting a copy job, these suggestions below may help you clearing the memory buffer by:
  • Add paper to the HP Officejet series paper tray
  • Clear a possible print jam and proceed printing the fax.
  • Reduce the copying or faxing resolution via the front panel's menu.
  • Use the HP Manager to send a (group) fax or making a copy. More memory is available this way, as the HP Manager utilizes the PC memory. When sending a group fax, the HP Officejet all-in-one's memory is filled to capacity. To copy in color is only possible from the HP Officejet Manager.
  • Press START to clear the message. If this message persists, unplug the power cord, and after at least 15 seconds plug the power cord in.
CAUSE: The HP Officejet series memory may be full due to: Copying on Photo quality or sending a group dial, which will use an extensive part of the internal memory's capacity. No paper in the paper supply tray, while receiving a fax. This may result that the data remains in the buffer. Print jam while receiving a fax or copying. The data is still stored in the buffer. System error displayed on the HP Officejet display window. SUMMARY: The HP Officejet series will not fax or copy without sufficient memory to store the data of the page in the buffer before printing the receiving fax or the copy.

I can send a fax, make copies, but cannot receive a fax on my HPL7590. Help

hi tbacsa02,

this was a solution i posted earlier with someone that has the same problem like yours.

follow this few steps;
first can you try this;

You can test your fax setup to check the status of the device and to make sure it is set up properly for faxing. Perform this test after you have completed setting up the device for faxing. The test does the following:

• Tests the fax hardware
• Verifies the correct type of phone cord is connected to the device
• Checks that the phone cord is plugged into the correct port
• Checks for a dial tone
• Checks for an active phone line
• Tests the status of your phone line connection

The device prints a report with the results of the test. If the test fails, review the report for information on how to fix the problem and rerun the test.

To test fax setup
1. Set up the device for faxing according to your particular home or office setup instructions.
2. Make sure the ink cartridges are installed, and that full-size paper is loaded in the main tray before starting the test.
3. From the device control panel, press Setup.
4. Press right arrow to select Tools, and then press OK.
5. Press right arrow to select Run Fax Test, and then press OK.
The device displays the status of the test on the display and prints a report.
6. Review the report.
• If the test passes and you are still having problems faxing, check the fax
settings listed in the report to verify the settings are correct. A blank or
incorrect fax setting can cause problems faxing.

let me know.
