Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Console
I got a e74 system error on my 360, and called xbox and there solution isnt working and they are sending me a box. whenever i turn my 360 on, there is a red light on the bottom right RoL when my av cable is plugged into it. whenever i turn my 360 on, WITHOUT any av cable plugged into it it turn on normally. i also bought a new av cable and try it and the same problem happens with the 360. so is it my 360 OR both my av cable sucks?
E74 is NOT caused by a bad AV cable, it is NOT caused by the ANA/HANA scaler chip. It is the solder points on the GPU that have cracked. You must use a heat gun and do the XCLAMP to fix it. Shops normally charge $75-100 to fix that.

Simply overheat your consol, unplug everything apart from your av and power cable, wrap it up in a towel (i normaly fold over once) make sure the whole xbox is coverd up as much as possible, leave this for about 30 mins (it may turn off itself as its overheated - if not turn it off then back on) it then should work, if still getting E74 leave it on for abit longer in the towel, once it works remove the towel.

In all my instances of fixing xboxes, the E74 error was a problem with the ANA chip or the Ethernet chip, reflowing the xbox is you best bet, one thing you do not want to do is the towel trick, unless you really want to shell out $200 extra dollars for a new xbox, and then in that case by all means, do it.
The only xboxes i haven't been able to fix are the ones where someone told me, yeah i've done the towel trick a few times to this one

Sounds like the av port failed. the old one has to be unsoldered and a new one soldered on. if the issue isnt fix they will have to look more into the GPU

The cause of the xbox 360 E74 system Error might be overheating of
your console and for avoiding such error messages in future you need to
put your machine at an open space. Ensure that it is placed near the
window or you can also make some external arrangement for cooling the
console such as cooling the machine through a pedestal fan etc. But as
your Xbox already have E74 Problem, You can either send your Xbox to
Microsoft for repair ( just for your information Microsoft is no longer
providing Extended warranty for E74 Problem), Microsoft generally takes
3-4 weeks to fix the problem. If you can't wait for a month (I know
most XBox gamers can not wait without their favourite Gaming device),
You can also fix E74 Problem yourself and that too within an hour
without any technical knowledge. I would suggest you to check out the DIY Xbox Fix Guide for more information.
