Question about Western Digital Hard Drives

My book premium edition ii and windows vista

After installation of drivers for external drive, windows does not start up. i've reformatted once already...tried again...then i had to do a system restore. i unplugged it and had to restart two times before comp actually started working again. microsoft sent me to western digital's site for the driver. .... either i am installing the wrong one, or it just isn't doing the trick.

I am running 4 WD SATA drive internally on Vista Ultimate, and no problem. I have a simpletech USB 360gb external drive that I had not used after the VISTA install. After reading your problem, I hooked it up and turned it on, and it worked just fine. However, the computer forums are FULL of folks complaining about the My Book drives. WD site shows extra drivers for Win98 (as expected) and nothing for VISTA (would not think you would need one)

I would disconnect the MY BOOK. Get the PC running on its internal drives. Remove any MY BOOK drivers (they are likely for Win98). Reboot the PC. Connect the MY BOOK drive to a usb port and turn it on. If it doesn't come up as an external drive, I would think there was something wrong with it and contact Western Digital. You SHOULD NOT require VISTA drivers for any USB device. My warranty experience with WD has always been outstanding. Hope this helps

I have a big problem with my western Digital My Book 3tb external harddrive can not find drivers and software for this, my plattform is Windows Vista homne edition where to find this

Hello lars_olof_al,
I've given you a "Link to the Website,"
where you can "Download: "Drivers and Software."
"Enter the information requested to get the 'correct' Drivers."
e.g: HDD / My Book Essentials? {OS} XP, Vista or Windows 7?

"Download the Drivers.""Install the Drivers".
"Restart the computer!"
You should be "Good to go."

If there's anything else I can help you with?
"Write a 'comment;' I'll get back to you as soon as possible."
?If you are satified? Give a "Helpful Rating" thanks paul7of9

How to make my 500 mybook compatible with windows vista

Hello,

Normally by default, these external storage devices are pre-configured to work with Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. If you are having troubles making it work with Windows Vista, try to reformat the device with NTFS formatting and it should run smoothly.

Cheers!

Windows Vista is not recognizing my drive. It doesn't show up in my compter, and whenever I plug it in and try to access explorer, it doesn't respond, and I have to unplug it to use the window. It works on...

In Ubuntu you use a different File System (ext3). This is very different in relation to FAT32 or NTFS and Windows doesn't have a built-in driver that would enable you to access the disk. That is why it isn't recognized in Windows.
